Development Team Leadership and Management (35%)
Oversight and Mentorship: Lead the major gift fundraising team by offering mentorship, strategic direction, accountability, and structure.
Climate Cultivation: Foster a learning and development environment, promote collaboration, high morale, and excellence through relationship-building and strategic actions.
Proposal and Visit Strategies: Assist the team with developing strategies for proposals and visits through regular check-ins and strategy meetings.
Solicitation and Engagement Support: Inform and support activities that increase the gift pipeline and grow major donor counts.
Goal Setting and Monitoring: Collaborate with the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics, Vice President for Advancement and Philanthropy, and Deputy AD to set and monitor development officer goals against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
Budget Management: In partnership with the Deputy AD, oversee the budget for travel, events, and operations.
Administrative Actions: Handle performance management, hiring, training, onboarding, and offboarding of personnel.
Strategy Leadership (15%)
Trusted Advisor: Serve as a senior leader and trusted advisor, providing visible leadership across the athletics department.
Integration and Support: Work closely with various teams to ensure seamless integration and support of major gift efforts.
Collaborative Efforts: Collaborate with the office of philanthropy and engagement staff to enhance the work and impact of athletics development officers.
Strategic Planning: Play an active role in developing annual and multi-year strategic plans for athletics fundraising.
NIL Coordination: Help coordinate Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) efforts, ensuring alignment to maximize support for student-athletes.
Portfolio Management and Engagement (50%)
Portfolio Development: Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects, focusing on top individual prospects ($50,000 and above).
Solicitation and Stewardship: Ensure timely steps toward solicitation, closure, and stewardship with performance expectations including 30 solicitations per year at $50,000 or more and annual gift production of $2M or more.
Cultivation Strategies: Engage the Athletics Director, coaches, and staff in donor cultivation strategies and visits, providing necessary support and materials.
Qualifications
Required
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in professional development with successful major gift solicitation or related experience in marketing, sales, public relations, financial advising, or similar fields.
Leadership: Experience in leading, supervising, or managing development teams and programs.
Skills: High discretion, collaboration skills, outstanding oral and written communication, strategic thinking, hardworking, flexible, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Availability: Ability to staff evening and weekend events and travel throughout the year.
Preferred
Experience: Seven (7) or more years of progressive fundraising experience and two (2) or more years managing individual gift officers.
Specialization: Experience working in college athletics.
This role is vital for increasing private support for Wofford Athletics and ensuring the department's success in the Southern Conference.
