The Head Coach will provide the leadership, initiative, and direction for a highly competitive NCAA Division I athletic program. The Head Coach will:
Support the golf program’s mission to balance athletic success with academic excellence, acknowledging the critical role athletics plays in enhancing the academic experience.
Uphold the standards of William & Mary and the Athletic Department.
Contribute to and collaborate with peers toward the growth and maintenance of the program’s culture, challenging and supporting each student-athlete to develop their leadership skills, maximizing their athletic potential, and achieving their personal goals.
To provide leadership and direction to a program in pursuit of championships.
To fully support student-athletes in their academic endeavors.
To ensure that student-athletes are provided with the necessary experiences so that upon graduation, they can successfully pursue their chosen profession.
To engage with stakeholders, both on and off campus, to represent the university and department in a positive manner.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or comparable education, experience, and training.
Experience with athletic skill development for student-athletes.
Demonstrated skills or competencies related to the sport.
Ability to transfer technical and tactical knowledge of the game of golf to players through positive coaching and teaching methods in individual and team instruction.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) with demonstrated ability to interact effectively with diverse populations and multiple constituencies and develop effective working relationships.
Strong computer skills and the ability to utilize the latest advances in job related technologies.
Demonstrated attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
D-I coaching and/or playing experience at an academically rigorous institution.
Conditions of Employment
Work schedule includes frequent evenings and weekends as well as overnight travel to sport events.
Must meet physical requirements for the job; participate in and lead strenuous outdoor physical activities.
CPR certification or obtained within 6 months of employment.
Current NCAA certification or completed within 6 months of employment.
This is a restricted position subject to availability of funding.
