Job description

Western New Mexico University (WNMU) is a public, regional university located in Silver City, New Mexico, founded in 1893. Summary

Work closely with WNMU Athletics administrators and the Athletic Director to support gameday operations, sports marketing, social media, compliance, student-athlete achievement, photography and videography, and external relations, while ensuring alignment with NCAA and institutional guidelines.

Duties

  • Provide leadership for the comprehensive athletic department;

  • Assist in writing, editing, and distributing press releases, game recaps, previews, and feature stories for Western New Mexico University Athletics;

  • Capture and edit photo and video content for digital and social media use;

  • Provide support in athletic departments business operations, compliance, and student-achievement;

  • Work closely with Associate Athletic Director of Advancement fundraising events and community relations;

  • Manage live stats using NCAA LiveStats, StatCrew, or similar statistical software during games and events;

  • Create engaging written and digital content for WNMUmustangs.com and official social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, & TikTok);

  • Assist in designing and producing graphics, game programs, and promotional materials;

  • Assist with media relations support on game days, athletic events, including fundraising events;

  • Maintain and assist in updating historical records, rosters, student-athlete bios, and nominations of student-athletes for conference, regional, and national awards;

  • Collaborate with marketing and game operations staff to enhance fan engagement and promotional efforts,

  • Perform other duties as assigned;

Education/Requirements

Bachelor's degree required. Acceptance of Western New Mexico University Graduate Program and maintain good academic standing. Relative athletics knowledge in. college athletics.

Job Knowledge

Must be knowledgeable of University policies and procedures. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. Organizing and coordinating skills. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information. Ability to develop and deliver presentations. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Skill in examining current operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures. Ability to plan, assess, and evaluate programs. Knowledge of student recruitment and retention issues. Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals. Skill in the configuration and use of computerized database programs. Ability to provide leadership and guidance to administrative support staff and/or students. Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Knowledge of basic degree program content. Knowledge of rules governing residency in New Mexico for tuition purposes. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)

Normal office, indoor and outdoor environments. Work in an environment subject to frequent travel with exposure to varying climatic conditions. Requires strenuous physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects over 50 pounds. Ability to handle outdoor conditions for most of the work time. Ability to work flexible hours to include nights, weekends and holidays. Required to travel for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditory assess situations to insure health and safety. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. Will be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Location: Silver City

Perks/Compensation:

$2,500 per semester ($5,000 per academic year)

6 graduate credit hours per semester (12 per year)

Work Study hours at $12 per hour available
