DESCRIPTION:
Webster University Athletics, a member of NCAA Division III and the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC), invites applications for the position of Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Trainer provides health care services to student-athletes which includes prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation. Counsels student-athletes, parents, and staff on issues related to the overall health and welfare of the student-athletes. This position reports to the Director of Athletics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recognizes and evaluates athletic injuries/illnesses, provides immediate care and determines appropriate medical referral.
Responds to on-site emergencies to administer first aid; stays calm in emergency situations.
Coordinates transportation of student-athletes to hospitals and/or doctor’s offices as required.
Develops individualized rehabilitation programs to aid in the student-athlete’s return to physical activity.
Counsels student-athletes and coaches on a broad range of health care issues that relate to the well-being of the student-athlete.
Develops injury/illness prevention programs to help student-athletes identify the various risk factors associated with physical activity.
Provides athletic training services to various teams for practices and home sporting events.
Works with Strength and Conditioning coach to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs – both in-and off-season conditioning programs.
Works in conjunction with the other full-time athletic trainer on athlete treatment and care, event coverage and daily clinic operations.
Establishes emergency medical policies and procedures for athletes and coaches.
Schedules athletic training services to various teams for practices and home sporting events.
Maintains current medical records for student-athletes.
In conjunction with the other athletic trainer, oversees the work-study student staff.
Establishes working relationships with local clinics and doctors.
Attends staff meetings.
Follows and enforces OSHA requirements and guidelines.
Adheres to Sports Medicine guidelines established by the NCAA Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports.
Stays abreast of current theories and practices in the field by reading journals, reference books, and attending professional conferences.
Physical Demands:
Required to work irregular hours. Periodic travel is required.
Required to wear protective clothing such as glasses, masks, gloves, gown, etc.
May be exposed to electrical, mechanical, or chemical hazard.
May be exposed to dusts, fumes, odoriferous working conditions.
May be required to lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Certification from the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification (NATABOC).
Missouri Athletic Training Licensure
Registered in Missouri as an Athletic Trainer.
CPR/AED/First Aid Certification and/or EMT Certification.
Knowledge and/or experience in the implementation of safe and effective conditioning methodologies.
Demonstrated background and/or knowledge of anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong planning and organizational skills.
Ability to prioritize and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
Good judgment in handling sensitive student issues.
Demonstrated commitment to diversity and experience promoting inclusive excellence.
Ability to maintain composure when faced with difficult situations and to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree.
Minimum one (1) year of experience at the high school, collegiate or professional level.
Demonstrated clinical competence.
General knowledge of university, conference and NCAA guidelines, standards and procedures.
