Assistant Professor of Physical Education/Associate Director of Athletics

The University provides its students with a unique athletic program that allows them to pursue athletic excellence without sacrificing their educational experience. W&L follows the NCAA Division III guidelines of awarding financial aid based only on family need and academic merit. The result is a strong, diverse program in which students are motivated by their love of the game and their desire to excel. Washington and Lee sponsors 24 varsity sports; 12 for men and 12 for women. All sports compete at the NCAA Division III level while 23 sports compete in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). The Associate Director of Athletics supports the Director of Athletics, coaches, and other staff in fulfilling the mission and vision of the department. 

The Associate Director's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: serving as the Athletic department’s primary administrator for diversity and inclusion; serve as secondary compliance officer with Title IX and other regulations within NCAA, ODAC, and University guidelines; supervising the Director of Facilities and the Athletic Equipment Services Manager, and all facilities operations including directing event and game management for all athletic special events and home contests, and coordinating athletic facility scheduling; serving as liaison to Student Affairs and to campus housing and dining facilities; overseeing sport scheduling and sport contracts; organizing and preparing bids to host NCAA championships, and grant requests and award forms for NCAA, ODAC, and other organizations; teach within the PE department; other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess: a commitment to the integrated academic and athletic mission of the university, and to the principles and tenets of NCAA Div. III; initiative and enthusiasm; excellent time management and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to perform and complete work in a timely and professional manner; sound written and oral communication skills; demonstrated experience with managing multiple responsibilities; proven ability to supervise others; and proven ability to relate productively with a diverse population. 

Bachelor’s degree, three to five years of administrative experience in collegiate athletics is required; master’s degree and collegiate facilities and operations experience preferred. Salary will be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
