Assistant Athletic Trainer, Department of Athletics

Essential Functions:

  • Provides comprehensive evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletically injured student-athletes, in conjunction with appropriate medical personnel; primary sports responsibilities include practices, games, travel, and emergency preparation. 

  • Assists in the daily supervision and educational instruction of student assistants. 

  • Maintains liaison between WFUBMC (WFU Baptist Medical Center), WFUSHS (WFU Student

  • Health Services), and WFU Athletic department concerning office appointments, daily

  • treatments, rehabilitation/exercise programs, medical records, daily restrictions, and

  • modifications for athletes. 

  • Assists with the maintenance of all OSHA requirements for department.

  • Assists with drug testing collections for student-athletes.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training or similar field with two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • NATA certification, licensure (eligible for NC), and CPR certification.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or ordering services, and inventory control.

  • Ability to evaluate therapeutic requirements for student-athletes, and to fit and modify therapeutic and/or protective equipment.

  • Skill in the use of first aid procedures.

  • Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures.

  • Ability to design and implement fitness, nutrition, and/or conditioning programs.

  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, the internet, and other relevant software.

  • Ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.

  • Ability to always present and display professional demeanor.

  • Ability to meet the requirements of the University’s automobile insurance.

  • Physical Requirements: medium work; exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally and/ or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

  • Reaching, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motions. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Subject to hazards.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master’s Degree

  • Experience working with intercollegiate athletics
