The Assistant Director / Athletic Communications will report to the Assistant AD of Athletic Communications and serve as a key member of the external operations team developing and executing content strategies to further promote Virginia Tech Athletics, driving brand affinity and revenue. Responsibilities for the Assistant Director / Athletic Communications will include serving as the primary communications contact for assigned sports, primarily women’s basketball and men’s soccer. As the primary contact, this individual will be responsible for respective sports’ media and public relations strategy, written content, game notes, creative content, social media management and other record keeping. The Assistant Director / Athletic Communications will also work closely with creative, marketing, revenue and fundraising units to achieve department goals and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with related experience in athletics communication, digital media and/or graphic design at the collegiate level, professional sports or similar setting, or a master's degree.
Experience working with the sports of basketball and/or soccer.
Demonstrated capabilities as a feature writer.
Cutting-edge working knowledge of social media, graphic design, video, digital media and written media in athletics.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions: strong organizational, planning and time management skills.
Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as it related to their job responsibilities.
Overnight travel, evening and weekend hours required.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in NCAA Division I collegiate athletics setting.
Experience in generating creative content (i.e., graphics, motion graphics, videos, photos) and implementing a content strategy to assist recruiting efforts by coaching staffs at the NCAA Division I level.
Experience promoting and marketing a revenue-generating sport, including disseminating ticketing information.
