
The Director of Performance Nutrition (Sports Nutrition & Performance Specialist) provides strategic leadership, program development, and hands-on performance nutrition services for student-athletes. This position oversees the design, implementation, and management of a comprehensive sports nutrition system that enhances performance, recovery, health, and safety across all athletic programs. The Director collaborates with coaches, sports medicine, sport psychology and counseling, strength & conditioning, dining services, and external partners to ensure integrated, compliant, and evidence-based nutrition services.
Program Leadership & Design - 20%
Design, implement, and continuously evaluate a comprehensive athletic nutrition system/program.
Develop sport-specific nutrition strategies aligned with performance goals.
Lead annual planning sessions with sport programs and performance staff.
Establish measurable outcomes and key performance indicators for nutrition services.
Clinical & Performance Nutrition Services - 30%
Provide ~20 individual nutrition consultations per week for student-athletes.
Conduct clinical assessments as needed, including:
Body composition analysis
Hydration testing
Develop individualized fueling, recovery, and supplementation plans.
Monitor and document athlete progress in accordance with best practices and compliance standards.
Team Education & Outreach - 20%
Deliver a minimum of 2–3 team education sessions per sport annually.
Provide workshops for coaches, staff, and performance teams.
Create educational resources, digital materials, and fueling guides.
Dining & Fueling Operations - 10%
Facilitate and manage the athletics dining service agreement.
Oversee and coordinate operations of the Aggie Fueling Station.
Ensure proper food safety, compliance, inventory, and quality control standards.
Collaborate with campus dining and vendors to align menus with performance needs.
Travel & Practice Integration - 5%
Travel with teams as needed to support competition fueling strategies.
Attend practices as needed to evaluate athlete needs and provide real-time support.
Coordinate game-day nutrition protocols and hydration strategies.
Staff Leadership & Delegation - 10%
Demonstrate strong delegation skills to ensure efficient program delivery.
Elite communicator and collaborator with exceptional interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build trust, align multidisciplinary teams, and integrate nutrition strategies across performance staff and athletic programs.
Compliance & Safety - 5%
Ensure all nutrition practices align with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
Oversee supplement safety, third-party testing, and education protocols.
Maintain documentation standards and risk management procedures.
Promote safe, evidence-based nutrition practices.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field.
Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential required.
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in sports nutrition, preferably within collegiate or professional athletics.
Strong knowledge of performance nutrition, clinical assessment tools, and compliance standards.
Preferred Qualification:
Board Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD)
Experience with a NCAA Division I Athletic program
