Job Summary |
The University of Utah is now accepting applications in the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics for the position of Communications Assistant. This pre-professional internship is an 11-month position with a salary of $20,000. Utah is a NCAA Division I school and a member of the Big 12 Conference.
The Communications Assistant will serve as the primary media contact for multiple sports within the department as well as contributing to the overall storytelling and content strategies to promote a positive image for Utah Athletics under the direction of the Senior Associate A.D. for Strategic Communications. |
Responsibilities |
Publicity, storytelling and support for Utah’s intercollegiate athletic programs; producing or collaborating in the creation of content for website and digital media through innovative platforms that align with the changing shape of college athletics; managing social media accounts and/or planning content calendars for assigned sports; online team record books/media guides, game notes, news releases, statistics compilation and graphic design; generating feature content for video and other unique coverage for UtahUtes.com; establishing and maintaining positive relations with media through strong interpersonal communication skills; staffing home and select away events; supervising student workers and statistical crews; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Mass Communications, English, Liberal Arts, or a related area, or equivalency required. Experience in desktop publishing, word processing, computer networks and web page design preferred. Experience in public relations work or the print news media also preferred.
Must be able to pass a background check. |
Preferences |
Excellent communication and organizational skills; proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, StatCrew statistical software and digital asset management programs; basic knowledge of various social media platforms (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) as well as website content management systems; considerable initiative, creativity, independence and love of sports.
