Associate Athletics Director for Ticket Sales and Retention

Job Summary

This role serves as the architect and lead strategist for UTSA Athletics’ ticket sales and retention efforts, with direct oversight of sales staff, pricing strategies, retention campaigns, and fan engagement initiatives that support attendance and revenue growth. The Associate AD will foster a high-performance sales culture, support analytics-informed decisions, and collaborate across the department to integrate ticket sales strategies with marketing, communications, sponsorship, and development.

Under the direction of the Deputy AD for External Affairs, provides leadership and oversight for all outbound and inbound ticket sales strategies and staff (including full-time reps, student workers, and third-party vendors if applicable).

Core Responsibilities

  1. Oversees strategic planning and implementation of season ticket campaigns, group sales, single-game sales, mini plans, and premium seating inventory.

  2. Leads the development and execution of ticket retention initiatives, including renewal outreach, account servicing, benefit structure, and fan engagement events.

  3. Manages CRM utilization and reporting, sales pipeline activity, customer segmentation, and fan engagement analytics.

  4. Directs pricing models and revenue forecasting in coordination with the Deputy AD and Business Office.

  5. Acts as the key liaison to the ticket operations and box office team, ensuring seamless integration of technology, customer experience, and data reporting.

  6. Collaborates with marketing, communications, and development teams to align messaging, promotions, and donor/ticketing integration.

  7. Represents UTSA Athletics in community and industry settings to elevate brand and grow new ticketing partnerships.

  8. Lead a comprehensive sales and retention strategy for football, men’s and women’s basketball, and all other ticketed sports.

  9. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate the ticket sales and retention staff.

  10. Develop sales goals, monitor progress, and report weekly KPIs and performance dashboards.

  11. Implement fan retention and engagement strategies to increase renewal rates and lifetime value.

  12. Coordinate with the marketing team on campaigns that support attendance and ticket sales objectives.

  13. Serve as the primary liaison to ticket operations on seating manifests, ticket distribution, and customer service practices.

  14. Oversee CRM database management and optimize sales tracking and outreach effectiveness.

  15. Build strategic community relationships that expand ticket buyers through youth, military, corporate, and regional outreach.

  16. Ensure all ticket sales initiatives comply with NCAA and UTSA policies.

  17. Assist with special projects, postseason events, bowl game planning, and donor engagement activities as needed.

  18. Work, as needed, outside of business hours, including evenings, holidays or weekends.

  19. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Three years of experience in ticket sales and/or ticket operations to include two years of experience supervising ticket sales staff members.

  • Experience with successfully and independently planning and managing projects at the strategic and operational levels, within prescribed deadlines.

  • Experience in ticket sales systems related to a professional sports and/or college athletics environment. 

  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UTSA and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Marketing, Business Administration, or Communications.

  • Five years of experience in ticket sales and/or ticket operations.

  • Selling and management experience with Ticketmaster and Archtics.

  • Experience managing Ticket Sales and Service in a profit-driven department. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Knowledge and understanding of policies of the NCAA, American Athletic Conference and University of Texas at San Antonio.

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

  • Accurate written and verbal communication skills.

This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
