Job Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer I provides a specialized skill, management, leadership and administration of the UTSA Athletic Medicine program. Assist in the overall administrative duties of the department. This role is responsible for assisting with the organization, management and administration of the Athletic Training Program as well as the supervision, treatment and rehabilitation of the UTSA men’s and women’s intercollegiate sports programs in accordance with University and NCAA policies and philosophies.
Core Responsibilities
Provides athletic medicine services for team practices and competitions at home and on the road primarily for the sport of Men’s Basketball.
Assists in the overall administrative duties of the department.
Provides prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for injuries to student-athletes.
Maintains medical records and documentation for all assigned student-athletes.
Coordinates PPE’s and medical paperwork for assigned athletes.
Coordinates doctors appointments for assigned student athletes.
Designs and implements pre-habilitation and post-injury rehabilitation for the student-athletes.
Assists in the daily management of the training room, including maintenance and storage of supplies and equipment.
Assists in organizing and administration of the athletic training facility.
Provides computer records of athletic injuries, illnesses and their treatments.
Assists with issues concerning insurance.
Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with the University, American Conference and NCAA rules.
May supervise other staff and student athletic trainers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in Kinesiology, Physical Education, Athletic Training or Sports Medicine.
Experience in the athletic training field at any level.
Current National Athletic Trainers Association Board Certification.
Current State of Texas athletic training license or eligible to receive within 30 days of employment.
This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
Preferred Qualifications
Two to four years of experience in a collegiate setting.
Collegiate Basketball experience.
Experience with Neurocognitive baseline/post-concussion testing.
Experience with various forms of manual therapy and soft tissue techniques.
Experience with injury tracking software.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
Ability to work with various modalities in the athletic training room.

Working Conditions
Possibility of working in dangerous conditions, such as bloodborne pathogen-related areas.
Possibility of working in inclement weather conditions (i.e. cold, heat, rain, etc.).
Ability to engage in physically demanding, manual tasks.
Evening and weekend work will be required.
Physical Demands:
Medium: Up to 50lbs - Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
