The role of this position will be to perform the daily duties assigned by the director that are both scheduled and unscheduled. Responsibilities include, but not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, watering, aerifying, verti cutting, topdressing, irrigation programing, painting, and other cultural practices. Additionally, the person hired must demonstrate personal accountability, including compliance with the compliance staff directives and adherence to Athletics Department and University policies as well as NCAA and Conference rules and Regulations.
Essential Functions:
Mowing: Use of large reel and rotary type mowers to maintain playing fields and facilities
Perform cultural practices such as watering, topdressing, aerifications, weeding, verti cutting, and fertility programs
Participates in routine grounds maintenance functions requiring some organizational skills
Painting of lines, numbers, hash marks, logos, and borders of our athletic fields for practices, recruiting events, and games
Assists in planning daily gardening activities
Performs routine tasks
Operates landscape equipment
Prepares athletic fields (e.g. drag/layout/line fields, repairing rodent damage, divots, etc.) for the purpose of providing adequate, attractive and safe areas for assemblies, recreational activities, athletic events, practices and/or games
Observes performance of subordinates to ensure safe and appropriate use of gardening tools and landscape equipment
Ensures that trash and debris are removed from grounds and that trash receptacles are emptied
Edges turf around flower, shrub, and ground cover beds and along sidewalks
Uses portable sprayer to apply herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides
Reports and addresses field issues such as turf stress, disease, wear areas, etc
Assists in maintenance programing for irrigation, seeding, weeds control, turf repair, sod removal, renovation and installation
Performs related duties as needed to successfully fulfill the functions of the position

Required Education: High School Diploma, AND;
1 year of athletic field or grounds maintenance experience.
Skills:
Basic math skills
Ability to accurately read and understand written materials and instructions
Uses tools or equipment in a manner requiring competence
Communicates as required to exchange information and give simple instructions
Performs simple record-keeping operations
Knowledge of routine gardening procedures
Certifications:
Valid Oklahoma Driver's License in order to drive University vehicles or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire date.
Advertised Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Demonstrated ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Demonstrated ability to meet the physical demands of the job including lifting 50lbs and loading to the height of a truck bed
Walking one mile unassisted and uninterrupted
Near continuous standing
Demonstrated ability to work overtime, sometimes on short notice
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold
Some overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required
May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures
May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies
Departmental Preferences:
Associate's degree in Sports Turfgrass Management
Minimum of two years’ experience in Minor League Baseball and/or NCAA Division 1 Baseball or Softball team experience
Supervision:
1-4 part-time workers
