Position Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Joyce Center, ensuring the facility remains safe, functional, and event-ready. This role provides leadership for facility operations, maintenance activities, event logistics, and administrative functions while serving as a key partner to Athletics, University Operations, and event stakeholders. Due to the nature of facility operations and scheduled events, regular evening and weekend availability is required.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee the daily operations, maintenance, equipment, and overall appearance of the Joyce Center.

  • Ensure the facility's interior and exterior are clean, safe, and fully operational.

  • Work closely with Building Services and Campus Maintenance Supervisors to address facility needs and maintenance priorities.

  • Monitor critical building systems, including HVAC operations (24/7) and facility access systems.

  • Schedule and coordinate preventative maintenance agreements, inspections, and service activities.

Staff Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise maintenance and event-specific staff.

  • Support hiring, training, and performance management efforts.

  • Direct daily work assignments and monitor staff performance.

  • Track and approve employee hours through Ultra-Time.

Event Operations & Logistics

  • Collaborate with Game Management, University Operations, Events, and Safety teams to support athletic and special events held within the Joyce Center.

  • Coordinate event scheduling, operations, logistics, security, and risk management activities.

  • Manage the approval and execution of event requests through the Event Management System (EMS).

  • Ensure facilities are prepared and operationally ready for all scheduled events.

Access Control & Administrative Support

  • Manage physical key distribution and electronic access control for staff and student-athletes.

  • Procure equipment and supplies needed for maintenance projects and facility operations.

  • Monitor assigned budget units and support responsible fiscal management.

  • Partner with the Assistant Athletics Director for Facilities, Operations, and Safety on strategic planning, operational decisions, and future facility needs.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Degree in Business Administration, Facility Management, Sport Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 5–6 years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the use, management, and promotion of athletic facilities, equipment, and systems.

  • Ability to oversee facility operations in a complex, high-traffic environment.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while supporting a wide variety of events and operational needs.

  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating work across multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by facility operations and event schedules.Previous experience serving as an in-game show caller at athletics events.
