Position Summary:

The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every student-athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large.

This position is responsible for the successful planning, direction and administration of all aspects of the University's NCAA Division I Men’s & Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field programs.

Job Duties:

1. Develop, organize, direct, advance, and administer a successful Division I Men’s & Women's Cross Country / Track & Field programs.
      • Plan, organize and conduct practice and training sessions (pre-season, season, off-season, spring, summer).
      • Oversee development and implementation of competitive strategies to benefit student-athletes.
      • Lead and motivate student-athletes and coaching staff to maximize their potential.
2. Recruit quality student-athletes.
3. Facilitation of the academic performance and success of student-athletes which includes retention and culminates with graduation.
      • Recognize students who achieve academic excellence.
4. Administrative duties, which may include but is not limited to ordering/selection of equipment and supplies, arranging practice and competitive facilities, team travel, assisting Director of Athletics with scheduling, and budget planning, management, and adherence.
5. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, adherence, and commitment to all NCAA, Conference, State, and Institutional rules and regulations.
6. Establish a team culture that ensures appropriate and acceptable student-athlete and staff behavior on and off the field of competition.
7. Demonstrate knowledge and skills to lead a competitive Division I Men’s & Women's Cross Country / Track & Field program. Remain current on all trends, methods, and innovations related to Cross Country/Track & Field and coaching.
8. Participate in program and departmental fundraising, public relations, and promotional efforts.
      • Coordinate an outreach program that encourages student-athlete and sport program visibility in the University and local community.
      • Conduct camps and clinics.
9. Supervise, prepare, and lead assigned coaching staff.
10. Perform all other duties as assigned.

The position will serve as the primary contact for the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country / Track & Field programs. This includes working with Athletics Administration, Athletics staff including communications, equipment, athletic training, compliance, and sports performance. There are also a number of campus staff including, academics and admissions, among others.

This position will work with parents, potential student-athletes, coaches, vendors, as well as other alumni, donors and sponsors.

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor's degree is required. A master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.

At least five years of experience in successful Cross Country / Track & Field Coaching at the collegiate level or equivalent related experience.

Required (may obtain and maintain immediately following hire): CPR/First Aid, NCAA Rules and Regulations certification.
