Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach

Position Summary:
The intercollegiate athletics program is an integral part of the university striving to achieve the same standards of excellence in athletics that exist within academic programs. The program is concerned with the physical and mental welfare of the student and strives to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to succeed academically and obtain a degree. Sport programs are a vital function of the University at large.

This position is responsible for assisting in the successful planning, direction and administration of all aspects of the University's NCAA Division I Volleyball Program.

Job Duties:
Assist in developing, directing, and advancing a successful Division I women's volleyball program.

  • Assist in the planning and conducting of practice and training sessions (pre-season, traditional and non-traditional training segments, off-season and summer)

  • Assist in the development and implementation of competitive strategies, including scouting

  • Assist in development of student-athletes

Lead and motivate student-athletes to maximize their potential.

Recruit quality student-athletes.

Assist in the facilitation of the academic success of student-athletes which includes retention and culminates with graduation.
Recognize students who achieve academic excellence.

Assist with administrative duties, which may include but is not limited to ordering/selection of equipment and supplies, arranging practice and competitive facilities, scheduling, and budget management and adherence.

Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, adherence, and commitment to all NCAA, Conference, State, and Institutional rules and regulations

Assist with the cultivation of a team culture that ensures appropriate and acceptable student behavior.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills to assist a competitive Division I volleyball program. Remain current on all trends, methods, and innovations related to volleyball and coaching.

Participate in program and departmental fundraising, public relations, and promotional efforts. Coordinate an outreach program that encourages student-athlete and sport program visibility in the University and local community. Assist with camps and clinics.

Assist the head coach in devising methods by which the team can achieve success.

Assist with the establishment and development of the team atmosphere.

Creates a positive atmosphere for the successful recruitment of student-athletes.

Promotion of community involvement by all team personnel.

Take on additional responsibilities delegated by the head coach in order to be exposed to head coaching responsibilities not normally assigned the assistant coach in order to prepare for advancement in the profession.


The Intercollegiate Athletics Compliance Manual. This manual is used on a regular basis to ensure compliance to Departmental, Conference, and NCAA guidelines and regulations. This manual provides forms for documentation and guidance in the regulation of coaching activity in the following areas:

  • Recruiting Activity

  • Transfer Activity

  • Practice and Competitive Activity Documentation

  • Student Athlete Eligibility Documentation

  • Financial Aid Documentation

  • Practice and Playing Season Declaration and Documentation

  • Rule Interpretations Policies

  • Complimentary Ticket Policy

  • Guidelines for Student Employment

  • Principles of Institutional Control

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics Staff Policy/Procedure Manual and Student-Athlete Handbook identifies policy and procedure to be followed by department personnel in the following areas:

  • Delineates the role of the coaching staff in overseeing the success of the student athlete.

  • Conducting fundraising activity.

  • Establishes guidelines for budgetary compliance in accordance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Conducting summer camp and clinic programs.

  • Maintaining compliance with NCAA financial aid regulations.

  • Establishes policy and procedure for scheduling athletic competitions.

  • Prohibits acts of hazing by staff and students.

  • Outlines university hiring practices.

  • Describes the licensure and merchandising program within the athletic program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred

  2. Combination of collegiate playing/coaching experience required, Division I experience preferred. Knowledge of NCAA rules required.
