Department Summary
The University of North Texas competes as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the American Athletic Conference. North Texas’ athletic programs are classified as NCAA Division I, the largest and highest division among all colleges and universities. The 46,000 square-foot Athletic Center located off South Bonnie Brae Street is the centerpiece of North Texas athletics. Athletics strives to conduct a competitive athletics program that promotes faculty, staff, student and community affiliation and participation with the North Texas Athletics. Provide facilities which attract the highest level of talent and allow student-athletes to perform at the highest level in practice and during competition.
Position Overview
Monitor academic progress, NCAA Rules and regulations and advise student-athletes for assigned sports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in in related field and two years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications: Masters Degree
Required License/Registration/Certifications
Job Duties:
- Develops and implements career, leadership and life skills programming.
- Assists student-athletes with establishing life and career goals and investigating degree and career options.
- Aids student-athletes in creating academic goals and assists with establishing a plan for academic success. Provides student-athletes assistance with class selection and Introduces them to resources and services associated with their majors.
- Works with student-athletes to build academic schedules that allow for academic success, and have minimal conflict with athletic practice and competition schedules. Aids student-athletes with course registration.
- Prepares regular academic reports and academic recovery plans for students who have received an academic alert or show a need for such assistance. Educates students on NCAA eligibility rules. Monitors NCAA eligibility. Monitors degree plans and progress towards degree to support students in meeting university and NCAA degree requirements.
- Reviews and certifies class schedules for academic and athletic eligibility per conference and NCAA requirements
- Conducts regular meetings with coaching staffs to review student-athlete academic progress. Prepares end of the semester grade reports and academic updates for assigned teams.
- Coordinates administrative functions related to after hours academic center activities, to include monitoring sessions, and managing staff payroll.
- Presents academic resources and support services to prospective student-athletes in the recruiting process. Completes transcript evaluations for prospective student-athletes.
Work Schedule:
Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm. Some evenings and weekends.
