Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.
Creative Services is tasked with the objective to ‘instill the sights, sounds and emotions of Carolina Athletics in every fan, recruit, donor with innovative and original content’. We develop cutting-edge strategies to utilize digital, social and emerging media to inform, educate and engage all constituencies. The Athletic Communications Office celebrates, publicizes and promotes UNC Athletics.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Creative Video, the Creative Content Specialist position brainstorms, records and edits video to contribute to the overall creative video needs for the University of North Carolina Athletic Department, specifically assigned Olympic sports teams. The position will lead the creation and coordination of creative video content for use on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other platforms for multiple teams and programs. This person will cover events and produce features, and will maximize engagement to advance the brand. The position will play an integral role in the communications, marketing, development and creative efforts for the Department of Athletics.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:
Substantial experience work in social media communications.
Strong written and verbal communications skills
Experience in managing multiple social media accounts on multiple platforms.
Ability to create and publish original, high-quality content.
Outstanding organizational skills, including a strong design sense and close attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience: The ideal candidate would have experience in college athletics content creation at the Division I level. This experience would include video content acquisition and editing, photography, still and motion graphics creation and social media distribution expertise.
Knowledge of and compliance with NCAA, ACC and institutional rules that relate to this position.
