Associate Director of Stewardship

SUMMARY 

The Associate Director of Stewardship supports the overall vision and strategy of The Rams Club by working to engage, inform, and recognize donors to illustrate the impact of giving to Carolina Athletics. This position will report directly to the Director of Stewardship & Signature Programs on the Member Services team and implement and help manage a robust stewardship program. The position will work closely with other Rams Club staff across teams to effectively promote The Rams Club and Carolina Athletics. Core responsibilities include managing the comprehensive gift acknowledgement process, managing Annual Fund stewardship efforts, developing creative ideas to thank and engage Rams Club members and donors, and assisting with efforts to promote The Rams Club’s fundraising priorities.  

Primary Areas of Focus: Stewardship, Membership Satisfaction and Engagement, Events, Hospitality 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Stewardship & Operations 

  • Manage The Rams Club’s acknowledgement process to ensure all gifts at all levels are timely and appropriately acknowledged  

  • Plan and coordinate team and student-athlete based stewardship: student-athlete Thank-a-Thons, thank you note process and collection with teams and student athletes (scholarship, endowment gifts, planned gifts, etc.), programing and celebration of team specific supporters surrounding national championships, etc. 

  • Plan and coordinate Annual Fund/Membership stewardship efforts including but not limited to: new member stewardship for premium Annual Fund members, implementation and management of milestone giving plan for years of giving, plan fiscal year closeout initiatives for Rams Club members, assist with member appreciation initiatives surrounding game days and events  

  • Work with gift officers, coaches, and others to personalize stewardship plans for major gift donors and obtain team-based collateral as appropriate 

  • Coordinate The Rams Club’s annual student-athlete scholarship assignment process and broader scholarship donor stewardship lifecycle 

  • Assist with the collection of information for and development of various donor impact reports 

  • Assist the Director of Special Events in the planning and execution of strategic events designed to steward members and promote the organization’s goals  

  • Drive marketing, communications and engagement efforts surrounding The Rams Club’s women’s initiative, FORevHER Tar Heels  

  • Manage selection, ordering, and delivery of unique gifts for various donor groups 

  • Develop a plan for annual utilization of ThankView digital platform 

  • Develop, implement and manage a stewardship plan for lifetime giving 

  • Recommend new and creative ways to steward and engage donors at various giving levels 

  • Other duties as assigned 

 
Member Satisfaction & Engagement 

 

  • Provide superior customer service to donors, student-athletes, parents, coaches, Athletic Department staff and campus partners 

  • Develop relationships with existing and prospective donors 

  • Respond to general member inquiries via phone and email communication 

  • Assist with the fulfillment and distribution of tickets and parking passes, game day hospitality and other general game day operations 

  • Other duties as assigned 

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of related experience and education. Preference given to candidates with Master’s degree and 3 years of experience.   

  • Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills 

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong proofreading skills 

  • Demonstrated ability to handle time pressures and competing priorities 

  • Previous experience in development or higher education. Experience in college athletics preferred. 

  • Exceptional customer service skills 

  • Keen attention to detail  

  • A gratitude-focused mindset 

  • Familiarity and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel  

  • Ability to work independently toward goals and take initiative with minimal supervision 

  • Comfortability with working games and events outside of normal business hours
