Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director’s Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department’s guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to formulate, manage, and oversee all aspects of the budgets assigned to the Football Cost Center. This includes football specific budget management and oversight, financial reporting, analyzing of expenses and revenue; direct, honest and accurate communication with the Business Office and Football Staff. Position assists in reconciliation/auditing of Football transactions to ensure compliance with NCAA, ACC, State and institutional regulations. This position will work with the Football staff as the point person for all purchasing needs; processing (and at times approving) Football specific transactions.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management Preferences

High proficiency level with Microsoft Excel, strong analytical skills and experience preparing budget reports with a strong aptitude for assembling and compiling pertinent data for presentation to coaching and administrative staff.
Substantial experience that demonstrates sufficient accounting competencies that are necessary to perform the work.
Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines, as well as the ability to provide clear, concise and accurate information.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Valid NC Driver’s License.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements

Must be able to lift/move 25lbs or greater. May be required to navigate stairs. Attention to detail essential. Must be able to manage high volume, fast paced environment. May be subject to working in extreme weather conditions. Travel may be required.
