Head Coach, Women's Field Hockey

The Head Field Hockey Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the University of New Hampshire Field Hockey program. This role is responsible for fostering a culture of integrity, inclusivity, and excellence, prioritizing student-athlete development both on and off the field. The Head Coach will lead all aspects of the program, including strategic planning, coaching, recruitment, academic oversight, compliance, fundraising, and community engagement, while aligning with UNH’s mission and NCAA standards.

 

Manage all aspects of the Field Hockey program, which includes but is not limited to: coaching; game management; recruitment of prospective student-athletes; monitoring of student-athletes' academic progress; compliance with University, conference, and NCAA rules; alumni relations; fundraising; and supervision of assistant coaches.

 

Job Duties:

  • Developing and executing a strategy for fielding a team that is competitive regionally (America East Conference) and nationally.

  • Developing game plans and training and conditioning programs;

  • Organizing practice sessions;

  • Developing and retaining athletically talented student-athletes to compete successfully within the conference, regionally and/or nationally, and enhance performance of the UNH Field Hockey team;

  • Conceive, implement and supervise a strategy to recruit high-profile Division I student-athletes to the UNH Field Hockey program. This includes traveling to evaluate players’ abilities, phone calls, letter writing, on campus meetings, and scholarship recommendations;

  • Manage all administrative details including oversight and evaluation of coaches and staff; and

  • Plan and manage  the UNH Field Hockey budget as well as the annual awarding of scholarships. Ensure that expenditure does not exceed team budget.

  • The Head Coach will articulate the mission for the Field Hockey program, ensuring alignment with the UNH Department of Athletics and the University of New Hampshire.

  • The position will develop and maintain strong alumni, parent, and booster support for Field Hockey, and work with Athletics Development and the UNH Foundation to increase annual contributions and scholarships for the Field Hockey team and the Department of Athletics.

  • The Head Coach will also manage the operation of the Memorial Field Fund and develop revenue generating and fundraising activities, camps, and/or clinics to support the Field Hockey program.

  • The Head Coach will encourage student-athletes to perform to their highest academic potential, monitoring student-athletes' progress toward degree requirements to remain eligible.

  • The position will monitor the retention eligibility of student-athletes as it impacts Field Hockey's Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR); attend all Department and mandatory NCAA compliance meetings and maintain appropriate forms and documentation in office files to be reviewed upon request.

  • The Head Coach will maintain compliance with state and federal laws, University Policies/regulations, America East rules/policies, and NCAA rules, and will report to the Director of Athletics and Athletics Compliance Officer any violation of NCAA, conference, and/or institutional rules.

  • Public relations responsibilities include but are not limited to attending on/off campus functions representing the program, speaking at high schools, clubs, banquets, and lecturing at summer camps.

  • The Head Coach will represent the University at the highest professional level with dignity, integrity, and strength of character.

  • They must respect the rights and dignity of each student-athlete; display sensitivity to diversity issues, and work to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.

  • The Head Coach will serve as an ambassador for UNH Athletics and build strong relationships with institutional colleagues, community, and the State of New Hampshire.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • At least seven years’ experience in coaching Field Hockey at the Division I level required

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

Compensation Pay Range:

$50,000.00 - $325,000.00
