Assistant/Associate Athletics Director, Business and Finance, Nevada Athletics

Nevada Athletics welcomes applications for an Assistant/Associate Athletics Director, Business and Finance. This position oversees the budgetary, fiscal, and business operations of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA).  The individual reports directly to the Director of ICA and maintains an indirect reporting relationship with the Vice President, Finance and Administration in terms of financial accountability. The position serves as a member of the department’s leadership team and maintains collaborative decision-making authority regarding the organization’s financial health.  The position works with the Director in planning, monitoring and managing the department’s long-term and daily financial activities, including ensuring senior management, coaches and unit supervisors are aware of financial status.  The position ensures the integration and compliance of the department’s financial and accounting activities with those of the university and works proactively to mitigate audit risks and ensure compliance. The incumbent will be expected to maintain a focus on continual process improvements to ensure operational efficiencies and sound business practices.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze, forecast, plan, develop, implement and manage state, self-supporting, foundation, and contractual budgets; perform fiscal planning by preparing long and short-range financial forecasts; research discrepancies and prepare remediation plans.

  • Provide timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports and financial trends in order to assist in meeting financial commitments

  • Provide advice on how to increase revenue and decrease costs

  • Implement continuous monitoring and assessment strategies related to all functional areas with specific emphasis on high risk audit functions

  • Develop and implement sound internal controls to maintain accuracy, compliance and reduce audit risks

  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors; develop audit reports; research audit findings and implement corrective measures for future prevention

  • Serve on leadership team and provide guidance and advisement related to administrative and operational processes; contribute to and participate in strategic planning and decision-making efforts

  • Develop and utilize operational metrics for all operational aspects, planning and growth

  • Evaluate and enhance the unit’s structure for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the operations; continually analyze and improve internal business processes

Required Qualifications

Assistant Athletics Director

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business management or related field and four (4) years of related professional work experience; OR

Master’s Degree in business, accounting, administration or related field and two (2) years of related professional work experience.

Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, cash management and budgeting finance and administration or related; two years of supervisory experience

Associate Athletics Director

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, business management or related field and fine (5) years of related professional work experience; OR

Master’s Degree in business, accounting, administration or related field and three (3) years of related professional work experience.

Related Experience: Progressively responsible experience in the areas of financial accounting and reporting, cash management and budgeting finance and administration or related; two years of supervisory experience

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
