Responsibilities: The Athletic Director at University of Missouri St. Louis will lead a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program comprising 19 sports and more than 290 student athletes. Serving on the Chancellor’s leadership team, the Athletic Director will provide visionary leadership, strategic planning, and policy development to ensure the program's alignment with the university's mission and strategic priorities. The AD will collaborate with other campus partners in creating a vibrant experience for our overall campus community around the excitement and engagement of our fantastic sports programs and student athletes, and will engage with external constituents to increase athletic revenue generation, alumni engagement, donor support, and sponsorship.

 

Duties And Tasks:

·       Lead a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program comprising 19 sports, over 30 coaches, and more than 290 student-athletes.

·       Serve on the Chancellor’s leadership team, providing visionary leadership, strategic planning, and policy development to align the program with the university's mission and strategic priorities.

·       Champion initiatives that bring student-athletes and the wider student community together through collaborative events, engaging social activities, and joint initiatives to create a cohesive and energetic campus culture that celebrates unity and school spirit.

·       Collaborate with academic and student affairs to create a holistic approach that supports student-athletes' academic success, personal development, and well-being, ensuring a balanced and fulfilling college experience.

·       Collaborate with University Advancement and Marketing and Communication to oversee fundraising efforts and revenue generation, aiming to secure additional financial support for sports programs. This involves planning fundraising events, coordinating promotional materials, and collaborating with alumni or booster clubs to enhance resources for our athletic endeavors.

·       Foster high standards of integrity, athletic excellence, and academic success.

·       Strategically manage the athletic department budget and engage in financial planning to allocate funds for equipment, facilities, travel expenses, personnel salaries, and other operational needs.

·       Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of overseeing athletic enrollment, managing roster sizes, administering scholarships and discounts, and optimizing revenue streams within the context of Division II athletics.

·       Ensure compliance with university, conference, and national association policies and regulations, staying informed about changes and implementing policies to maintain compliance.

·       Recruit and manage a coaching staff dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of student welfare and compliance, ensuring our program remains competitive within Division II athletics.

·       Manage facility maintenance and operations to uphold rigorous safety standards and ensure all facilities are maintained to the highest quality, aligning with the expectations of excellence within a top-tier Division II athletic program.

Work hours vary per the needs of the department.

 

Minimum Qualifications

A Master's degree in related/relevant area or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 7 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a preference for advanced degrees.

·       Significant experience in intercollegiate athletics administration or comparable managerial roles.

·       Strong understanding of NCAA rules and regulations, with a commitment to maintaining compliance and ethical standards.

·       Experience in budget management, financial planning, and fundraising strategies to support athletics programs and facilities.

·       Strong commitment to academic excellence, integrity, and effective collaboration with diverse constituencies.

·       Exceptional leadership, strategic planning, and communication skills.

·       Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders including student-athletes, coaches, university administrators, alumni, donors, and community members.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
