Assistant Baseball Coach

The Assistant Baseball Coach is a key member of the baseball coaching staff and works closely with the Head Baseball Coach to support all aspects of a nationally competitive NCAA Division II program. Responsibilities include coaching, recruiting, player development, practice and game preparation, academic support, and assisting with the daily operations of the program. The successful candidate will play an integral role in fostering a culture of excellence while helping student-athletes succeed both on the field and in the classroom.

Coaching and Player Development

  • Assist in planning and conducting practices, training sessions, and competitions.

  • Instruct student-athletes in baseball fundamentals, position-specific skills, team strategy, and leadership development.

  • Provide individualized instruction to support athletic growth and performance.

  • Assist with game preparation, scouting reports, video analysis, and in-game coaching.

  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.

Recruiting and Talent Evaluation

  • Identify, evaluate, and recruit academically and athletically qualified prospective student-athletes.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school, junior college, club, and summer baseball coaches.

  • Assist with recruiting visits, communication, and roster management.

  • Represent UMSL Athletics and the baseball program professionally throughout the recruiting process.

Student-Athlete Success

  • Mentor student-athletes in their academic, athletic, and personal development.

  • Encourage academic achievement and support student-athlete retention and graduation.

  • Foster an environment that promotes leadership, character development, and overall well-being.

  • Support initiatives that enhance the student-athlete experience.

Program Operations

  • Assist with practice planning, team travel, equipment management, camps, and clinics.

  • Help coordinate game-day operations and other administrative duties as assigned.

  • Maintain accurate recruiting and program records.

  • Support the Head Coach in the day-to-day management of the baseball program.

Compliance and University Engagement

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to NCAA Division II, GLVC, University of Missouri System, and institutional rules and regulations.

  • Complete all required compliance education and documentation.

  • Represent UMSL Athletics with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to the mission and values of the University.

  • Participate in community engagement, alumni outreach, and departmental initiatives that enhance the visibility of UMSL Baseball.
