Athletic Compliance Intern

Summary

To gain an educational experience through hands-on opportunities.  Reporting to the Executive Director of Athletic Compliance, intern will have the opportunity to provide support of day-to-day operations involving NCAA/Big Ten/WCHA compliance at the University of Minnesota.  Responsibilities will consist of document review, compiling reports, assisting in creating educational documents, data entry, providing rules education, researching rules questions, serving as a sport liaison for assigned sport(s) and other duties as assigned. Intern will be invited to participate in an on-going Intercollegiate Athletics intern development program which includes assigned mentors and a broad experience within athletics. 

 

Essential Functions

  1. Work with the Executive Director of Athletics Compliance to monitor, verify, and record recruiting logs, eligibility for incoming freshman, form completion and data entry.  These duties include:

    1. Reviewing recruiting and phone call logs from coaches.

    2. Reviewing CARA (countable athletically related activity) logs for compliance with NCAA limits.

    3. Data entry and filing.

    4. Auditing and monitoring social media.

    5. Other duties as assigned.

  2. Under direct support from the Executive Director and other members of the athletic compliance office, serve as a compliance liaison for assigned sport(s) programs These duties include:

    1. Developing educational items for the athletics department staff and student-athletes.

    2. Review documentation for continuing and incoming student-athletes.  Ensuring that all forms have been completed and identifying any potential items for follow-up.

    3. Review sport program documentation for compliance with NCAA and institutional regulations.

    4. Research NCAA and B1G/WCHA rules to provide answers to coaches, staff and student-athletes.

    5. Attend practices and competitions to monitor for compliance with NCAA rules.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree.  Familiarity with or experience in an athletic setting (student-athlete, student-manager, academic tutor, etc.), knowledge of Microsoft Office and other computer software packages, and excellent written and oral communication skills.  Job candidates will also have the ability to work independently as well as strong organizational and time management skills.  The ideal candidate will possess a high level of integrity, reliability, and ability to work with confidential information.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 1 year of Athletic Compliance experience.

 

Office environment – not specific or unusual physical or environmental demands

No supervisory responsibilities.

 

This is not a University of Minnesota employment position.  This position is not benefit eligible.  There is a stipend associated with this position, which will be paid across the length of the term.  This is a one-year internship, with the possible opportunity to reapply for an additional year.

 

Stipend:

This position will be paid a yearly stipend of $40,000 that is based on the individual working 40 hours/week.

 

Anticipated start date:

This position will likely begin on June 1, 2025 and end on May 31, 2026.
