Assistant Director of Facilities and Event Operations - 3M Arena at Mariucci, Ridder Arena, and Baseline Tennis Center

Job Duties

Contribute to the day-to-day operations for 3M Arena at Mariucci and Ridder Arena’s (25%)
a.
Develop work plans to prepare for all Gopher men’s and women’s competitions, practices, events, and non-Gopher Athletic Events.
b. Directly responsible for coordinating building operations—submitting physical plant work orders and tracking them, event conversions, and scheduling of ice arena staff.
c. Assist with the development of the facility operating budget and monitor monthly expenditures.
d. Primary responsibility of hiring, training, and documenting student staff to ensure proper procedures are used.
e. Ensure all part-time student employees are hired, trained, and evaluated annually while following University policies and procedures.
f. Train staff on emergency procedures for the facility—both daily and event-related.

Events Operations (25%)
a. Assign staff to provide facility coverage for daily operations as well as for all events held in the facilities.
b. Assign and plan event setups/teardowns and clean-up crews.
c. Duties range from miscellaneous custodial work, audio-visual assistance, and contributing to the overall success of events held.
d. Coordinate and direct broadcast operations, catering, and concessions to provide adequate services for events.
e. Collaborate with ICA Event Management on all events taking place at 3M Arena at Mariucci and Ridder Arena.

Facilities – Ice Arenas (35%)


a. Assist in developing long-term and short-term goals for facility improvements and equipment needs.
b. Act as a point of contact for day-to-day operations of the facility.
c. Manage all custodial efforts in the ice arenas, including student workforce, third-party daily cleaning company, student organization fundraising cleanups, and third-party post-event cleanup crews—overseeing schedules, performance feedback, and payments.
d. Develop and maintain a student laborer/custodial operating procedure manual.
e. Contribute significantly to both operational and event expense budget management.
f. Oversee preventative maintenance and emergency repairs while working with Athletic Facilities staff, Facilities Management, and outside contractors.
g. Coordinate rental of equipment needed for building maintenance and repair, including high lifts and forklifts.
h. Manage all supply ordering and purchasing for the facility, including custodial and event-related supplies.
i. Maintain records of custodial tasks—daily, weekly, monthly, annually, etc.
j. Coordinate and oversee efforts related to identifying building custodial and maintenance tasks.

Facilities – Baseline Tennis Center (15%)
a. Assist with day-to-day custodial operations.
b. Assist with preventative maintenance and emergency repairs as needed.
c. Manage, coordinate, and maintain records of custodial tasks—daily, weekly, monthly, annually, etc.

Personnel Responsible For

Part-time staff of twenty-five (25) student laborers/custodians and shared oversight of one (1) full-time intern
a. Coordinate all aspects of recruiting, hiring, training, and supervision of all part-time student employees.
b. Properly train students on all custodial tasks to be completed daily.
c. Provide training and oversight of event setups, teardowns, and conversions within the ice arenas.
d. Conduct performance evaluations for all part-time employees to ensure expected levels of performance.
e. Assist with training and supervision of the full-time (40 hours/week) intern.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
a. Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or related field OR 4 years of combined experience in a related field.
b. Basic knowledge of NCAA and B1G rules and regulations.
c. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled for large or complex events.
d. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
e. Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
a. Master’s Degree in Sports Management or related field.
b. 1 year of experience in sports facilities operations.
c. Facilities operations experience in NCAA or professional sports leagues.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 - $21.00 hourly; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment  (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
