The Senior Accountant will assist with month-end, quarterly, and annual financial close processes and reconciliations for Athletic Department operating funds. This position will perform various financial analyses and process journal entries on complex financial statement line items, and monitor and enhance key Business Office procedures, policies, and internal controls.
The Senior Accountant will assist with the preparation of financial reporting required by Athletic Department Leadership Team, University Regents, NCAA, and any other regulatory agencies. This position will participate in the external financial statement audit and assist in all aspects of developing and preparing the annual operating budget.
Prepare general ledger reconciliations and financial analysis, including but not limited to, deferred revenue and other balance sheet line items, ticket sales and spectator admissions revenues, preferred seat contributions, concessions and parking revenues, facilities operations revenues and expenses, and other operating and administrative expenses
Assist with preparation of financial reporting required by University Regents, University Office of Business and Finance, the NCAA, the Big Ten Conference, Athletic Department Leadership team, the Department of Education (EADA) and any other regulatory agencies
Assist in preparing the Athletic Department's external financial statements
Participate in all relevant audit processes, and provide information requested by auditors
Prepare, process and review technical journal entries related to significant financial statement line items
Perform internal control procedures, prepare University's Gap Analysis, and assist with monitoring and enhancing accounting policies and procedures
Assist with month-end and year-end financial close processes to ensure accuracy and completeness
Assist with development and preparation of annual operating budget and monitoring of budget-to-actual activity, including strategy discussions and planning, communication with Business Office and other Athletic Department units, compilation and review of unit-submitted budget templates, and presentation
Prepare documentation and analysis required for the University's Unrelated Business Income Tax return
Act as a budget liaison for assigned budget units
Perform various Business Office day to day duties and all other duties as assigned by Finance Manager

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in a public accounting firm or accounting department of a large and complex organization
Experience preparing journal entries and statement of account reconciliations
Strong technical background in GAAP accounting and financial reporting
Experience with automated financial systems, query tools to extract data from systems, and proficiency with administrative and financial information systems and various software applications.
Experience with implementation and maintenance of strong internal controls
Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze, monitor, and evaluate all financial aspects of the Athletic Department budget.
Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office Suite software
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast paced, challenging and ever-changing environment
Strong organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills
High level of personal integrity and ethics
CPA certification
Experience in intercollegiate athletics or university setting
Experience with GASB accounting
Experience utilizing PeopleSoft general ledger software and Business Objects data warehouse querying software
