Athletic Trainer Fellow - Temporary 11-month position

The University of Miami, Athletics Department, has an exciting opportunity for an Athletic Trainer Fellow. This role will support The University of Miami Tennis Program, subject to change based on department needs. The temporary position is an eleven (11) month appointment with a start date of January 2025. The work location is Miami, Florida.

The Athletic Trainer Fellow position will provide for the care and prevention of athletic injuries, rehabilitation of injuries, management and care of injuries under the guidance and supervision of an assistant/associate staff athletic trainer. Assist in the organization and administration of health care services, provide the education & counseling of athletes and students to all sports assigned. This is under the written protocol and supervised by the Team Physician as directed by the State of Florida Athletic Trainers Act. 

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

  • Support assistant/associate athletic trainers with arranging pre-season physicals for your assigned sport(s) and have all athlete files in proper order.

  • On-site and off-site coverage of all practices and games including travel as applicable.

  • Recognition and evaluation of injuries, injury management – treatment, injury prevention rehabilitation, organization and administration, education and counseling of all athletes on your assigned teams.

  • Maintain a daily injury report. Communicate the report with the assistant/associate athletic trainers, head coach strength & conditioning, and head coach every day. Provide the Head Athletic with a copy of this report. An injury as defined as a condition that limits the athlete in any way and has been written up on the injury report form.

  • Assist with other administrative duties as requested by the assistant/associate athletic trainer(s).

  • Preserves the confidentiality of student athletes’ medical charts.

  • Works with doctors and other allied health professionals to deliver care to student athletes.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. 

All Duties described below are supervised by the Team Physician as developed in a written protocol as dictated by the State of Florida Athletic Trainers Act.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                    

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

BOC Certified

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                

Bachelor’s degree required. Must be BOC Certified. Must be eligible for Florida Licensure as an Athletic Trainer under the written protocol and supervised by the Team Physician as directed by the State of Florida Athletic Trainers Act.
