The University of Miami is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time, 12 month position of Assistant Women's Rowing Coach. This position assists the Head Coach in all aspects of managing and coaching a Division 1 intercollegiate rowing program. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching, recruiting, and overall team operations.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                     

  • Assists in formulating coaching decisions such as development and implementation of the systems and strategies used, conduct of practice and conditioning/training, selection of Team members, deployment of student-athletes, and all other matters relating to the practice for and play of games, as well as the performance all other duties customarily associated of a head coach of a major Division I intercollegiate sports program.
  • Assists with the sports program’s recruiting activities which may include prospect student-athlete (PSA) evaluation; scouting; developing scouting reports; conducting video analysis; tracking PSA correspondence; distribution of scholarships; monitoring admissions and eligibility process involving recruited student-athletes; the planning and executing campus visits; managing recruiting databases.
  • Assists in developing and administering sport team rules including taking disciplinary action for violations of the University’s Student Athlete Code of Conduct. Monitors study hall, grade reports, class attendance, appearance and general standard of behavior of the team’s student-athletes.
  • Implements appropriate risk management strategies at all times; engages in regular consultation with athletic training and other department sports medicine personnel to maximize the safety and wellness of student-athletes; and demonstrates concern for the overall welfare of students at all times.
  • Monitors and encourages the regular progress toward an academic degree of those student-athletes who are on the Team, and making reasonable and good faith efforts, in cooperation with the University's faculty, administration and the academic support unit for student-athletes, to meet all student-athlete’s academic requirements.
  • Promotes an atmosphere of compliance with other coaches and actively supervising student-athletes and other individuals so as to maintain strict compliance with, the constitutions, bylaws, rules and regulations of the NCAA, the Atlantic Coast Conference, and any other governing body, league or conference of which the University may be subject to.
  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.  Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching

Assist the Head Coach at all practices and competitions;

Direct one or more division area(s) (i.e. fours, 3V, novice), as assigned, including:

  • Schedule, plan, and implement practices;
  • Coordinate with training room staff for athletes’ injury treatment and prevention;
  • Coordinate with strength and conditioning staff for students’ strength program;
  • Coordinate with compliance staff for students’ compliance with Departmental, Institutional, Conference, and NCAA rules.

Communicate with students in matters relating to the rowing program;

Support and implement the Head Coach’s philosophy.

Administration

Coordinate both on-campus and off-campus recruiting, including:

  • Maintaining contact with prospective students-athletes as assigned;
  • Traveling to competitions and recruiting events to identify and evaluate prospective student-athletes;
  • Maintaining up-to-date records regarding individual recruiting activities in compliance with Departmental, Institutional, Conference, and NCAA policies;
  • Other clerical duties pertaining to recruiting, team operations, and/or travel as assigned by Head Coach

Rules Compliance

  • Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, NCAA, Atlantic Coast Conference, and University of Miami policies and procedures.

Miscellaneous

  • Additional duties as assigned by the Head Coach;
  • Represent the University of Miami, the Department of Athletics, and the Rowing Program in a professional and ethical manner.

Department Specific Qualifications                                                                                

Education:

Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

One year coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications: top level collegiate, club or international rowing or coaching experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Strong commitment to working within the NCAA Rules and guidelines and a commitment to the academic goals of the University of Miami; The candidate must have strong organizational, communication and public relations
