Description:

UIC Flames Athletics is seeking a Program Student Advisor. The primary function of the position is to provide academic services to student athletes. UIC Flames Athletics is a NCAA Division I athletic program, sponsoring 300 student-athletes across 18 varsity sports. UIC became the 12th member of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) beginning with the 2022-23 academic year. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the admission process for all prospective student athletes
  • Meet and provide NCAA and UIC information to prospective student athletes and parents
  • Evaluate High School, Junior and 4 year college student athlete transcripts
  • Serve as a departmental liaison and contact person to campus units to provide information and resolve issues and programs
  • Serve as liaison between student athletes and faculty.
  • Provide academic support for student athletes in the area of academic progress, satisfactory progress and progress toward a degree as set forth by the UIC and NCAA
  • Monitor academic performance, class attendance, NCAA requirements for continued eligibility, grades, course selection, tutors and study table
  • Work with students one-on-one and in small groups to assist with skill development by teaching study skills and promoting skill development within the content areas of student's courses.
  • Develop academic plan for student athletes including time management
  • Serve as a resource for coach(s) on all areas regarding academics.
  • Provide intensive academic support to an assigned group of identified student athletes, some of who may have been diagnosed or underdiagnosed with learning disabilities or disorders which may impact their performance.
  • Work collaboratively with student services departments (e.g. Disability Resource Center, Academic Center for Excellence, faculty, and other campus personnel to obtain resources and services for student athletes.)
  • Provide consistent and frequent feedback to the Academic team liaison concerning the progress of identified student athletes.
  • Provide learning assistance as needed on evenings and/or weekends
  • Prepare and produce statistical reports on academics as required from the NCAA and UIC
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree*
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations while working with student athletes on academic eligibility.
