Summary

Responsible to the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, the Director - Administration is an extension of the executive team in representing the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This position manages the daily operations of the Administration office while assisting with or taking the lead on various tasks/projects/initiatives as assigned by the executive team. The incumbent should have knowledge and experience from within the realm of business operations, college athletics administration, and higher education in general.

Job Duties

  • Serve alongside the Department executive team (C-suite), coordinate and monitor action items for the team. Provide counsel to the team to ensure UH Athletics remains on task, maximizing itself to its fullest potential for success.

  • Manage the daily operations of the Administration (c-suite) office.

    •          Serves as a liaison and point of contact for the Vice President.

    •          Manages calendar, screening, internal / department communication, and scheduling of appointments for the Vice President.

    •          Coordinates travel as needed by the Vice President.

    •          May assist, from time to time, other members of the Executive team with these same activities.

    •          Ensures office coverage during normal operating hours.

    •          Ensure successful operation of Athletic Director game day suite (fb & m’s basketball).  

 

  • Assist the executive team to:

    •          Safeguard student-athletes and their experiences as student-athletes at UH.

    •          Create "Champions for Life".

    •      Develop strategic priorities that align with and grow the Department's vision, mission and goals while partnering with the University's executive leadership to ensure Athletics goals remain in alignment with university goals and success measures.

    •       Ensure UH Athletics remains in-line with university expectations with respect to policies, procedures, and processes.

    •          Serve as a primary liaison; foster a culture of collaboration and teamwork among Operational units and individual staff members, leading to Department success.

    •          Build confidence and grow affinity among constituents who invest in UH Athletics.

    •          Resolve complex, highly sensitive, and confidential matters.

 

  • Oversee and drive results for assigned projects.

    •          Provide strategy and leadership, facilitating the teamwork necessary to deliver a high-quality assigned project, on-time, and on-budget.

  • Depending upon the experiences of the candidate, may be considered to serve as a Sport Administrator for assigned athletics programs.

    •         Be a conduit for open, active communication between the Head Coach of the Program and the Vice President.

    •      Work alongside each Head Coach to identify the needs of the Program, leading to academic, athletic, and social success of the Program.

    •        Advocate for the needs of the Program.

    •        Assist the Head Coach to mentor student-athletes and/or assign discipline as may be needed.

    •         Effectively prioritize and manage budget allocations afforded the Program.

 

  • May serve in place of an executive team member in his/her absence.

  • In all situations, serve as a positive Ambassador for UH Athletics and UH in general. Effuse positivity and grow affinity for all things UH.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

 

Education

Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4-year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

Experience

A minimum of three (3) years of job-related experience.
