Job Summary
 

The Director of Sports Medicine is a full-time, 12-month position responsible for coordinating the evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for varsity student athletes. The position reports to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Finance.

Responsibilities

  • Prevention, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries and illness. Collaborate with physicians and health team members to develop and implement comprehensive prevention and rehabilitation programs.

  • Management of athletic training rooms and coordination of medical coverage for athletic events.

  • Supervise and mentor the Orthopedic Sports Medicine Fellows and Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellows.

  • Recruit, educate and oversee hiring of student workers.

  • Record keeping and documentation using the Athletic Trainer Software.

  • Impact baseline and post injury tracking; and communicates with coaches, athletes, and physicians on results and rehab planning.

  • Assist with insurance claims forms.

  • Promotes the professional growth of staff through coaching, mentoring and support.

  • Develops and implements best practices and developing at-risk metrics.

  • Develops policies and procedures related to Athletic Trainer operations.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external University issues to improve products and services.

  • Acts as a resource for colleagues.

  • Assume the role of the University’s allied HealthCare mentor.

  • Collaborates with a variety of individuals, including the sports medicine staff, coaches, administrators, and various offices on campus providing wellness events and services.

  • Supervise scheduling and documentation of physicians’ dictations for the weekly injury clinic.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge to guide all aspects of the varsity intercollegiate athletic training program with a minimal level of direction. Develops and implements new wellness initiatives.

  •  Performs other related work as needed.
