DESCRIPTION

 

The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Sports Nutritionist. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California's 10 campuses. The Sports Nutritionist plays an essential role within UC San Diego Athletics, supporting over 600 scholar-athletes through the Triton Performance 360 holistic care model. Operating across the three primary pillars of the UCSD Tritons EAT Program—Education, Advising, and Triage—the position develops and delivers team nutrition education, provides individualized performance nutrition guidance, and implements screening processes to identify scholar-athletes who may benefit from additional support or referral to appropriate healthcare providers.

 

The Sports Nutritionist collaborates closely with team physicians, dietitian, athletic trainers, coaches, and campus dining services to promote student-athlete health, well-being, performance, and recovery. Administratively, the role manages the athletic department's fueling stations, coordinates travel nutrition logistics, oversees undergraduate nutrition interns, and maintains accurate records and program data within the UCSD Athlete Management System.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training Required.

- Preferred: Registered Dietician, Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD).Master's degree in nutritional science, exercise science, or health-related fieldTwo years of relevant experience in high-performance sport settings.

- Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field.

- Thorough knowledge of the design and delivery of related programs.

- Skills associated with both the development and delivery of health education programs and services.

- Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups.

- Effective organizational skills.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to analyze, interpret and respond to client needs.

- Knowledge of NCAA, Big West, and West Coast Conference rules and regulations.

- Proficiency in sports nutrition, including experience in the collegiate or professional setting.

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 

- This position is a mandated reporter of known or suspected child abuse or neglect, according to the California law, Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

- This position is also a campus security authority (CSA) for the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, which is a federal law requiring disclosure of information about crimes on and around campus.
