Associate OR Assistant Director of Communications

The Associate/Assistant Director of Communications will serve as the primary contact for women’s basketball, women’s golf and other duties as assigned. The primary responsibility of this position is to support assigned programs in image, storytelling and brand building to positively impact and elevate the Arkansas Razorback brand. This position will also develop and execute a long-term vision for the communications function within assigned programs.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations or a closely related field

  • Associate = At least three years of experience in athletic communications or a related field at the collegiate athletics or professional sports level

  • Assistant = At least one year of experience in athletic communications or a related field at the collegiate athletics or professional sports level

Applicable equivalencies may be considered on the above qualifications.

  • Experience in writing game stories and game notes along with editing and designing of record books and game programs

  • Experience in Associated Press-style writing skills and proficiency in layout and design software (Photoshop and InDesign)

  • Familiarity with statistical software (Automated Scorebook, Genius)

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate = At least three years of experience working with a Division I women’s basketball program or WNBA team

  • Assistant = At least one year of experience working with a Division I women’s basketball program or WNBA team

  • Experience executing a social media plan across multiple platforms for specific sports and/or athletes

  • Experience working with network television to produce games and features

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues

  • Exceptional interpersonal, presenting, written and verbal communication skills

  • Superb editing and strategy skills and processes

  • High proficiency of skills with Adobe Creative Suite products, HTML coding, CSS, and Content Management Systems

  • Ability to both work independently and take direction from others, solve problems with limited supervision, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

  • A collaborative work style, innovative thinking, strong work ethic, professional demeanor and enthusiastic attitude

  • Ability to travel, as well as work nights and weekends

  • Strong management and mentoring skills and experience coaching and supporting individuals as spokespeople

  • Exceptional analytical, strategic and tactical ability combined with expert relationship management skills and attention to detail

  • Proven ability to develop an effective communications plan and content calendar to achieve goals
