Position Summary: The Case Manager works with the mental health programs and functions of the Tulane University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics to deliver comprehensive mental health and lifetime wellness services. This position is responsible for providing case management services by: assisting students to reliably connect to community providers and resources; coordinating referrals between university, community, state, regional, and nationwide service providers; triaging clients through brief clinical assessments to determine level of care and disposition; intervening with students in crisis and providing support, resources, and information; contacting insurance companies; keeping an up-to-date database of community referrals; providing individual counseling, group counseling, and outreach as needed maintaining a successful case management system.
Essential Functions of the Job:
Function: Coordinates and monitors services, including comprehensive tracking of student-athlete activities in relation to care plan; assists students in developing goals and areas of need and assists in developing regularly assessed treatment plans; conducts medication and mental status assessments and determines required level and frequency of services; documents all student encounters and contracts made on behalf of the student; completes and submits billing documentation as appropriate; maintains comprehensive client files, which may include documents held for safekeeping on behalf of the student; identifies and provides emergency crisis services as necessary; makes immediate clinical assessments and responds according to accepted crisis intervention methods and techniques; coordinates other services as appropriate; assesses and evaluates effectiveness of care plan and progress made by student, participates in patient treatment planning and case review with patient care providers; maintains and reports applicable statistics regarding programs and services; coordinates referrals between university, community, state, regional and nationwide service providers; triages students by conducting brief clinical assessments to determine level of care and disposition; intervenes with students in crisis and providing support, resources and information; provides individual counseling, group counseling, supervision, and outreach as needed; builds relationships with students that foster early communication of risky situations to mitigate the need for crisis management; conducts intake assessments on designated athletes during their on-campus evaluations. (AOD, ADHD, ADD); utilizes diagnostic tools such as the DSM-5, the Beck Depression Scale (or other), Beck Anxiety Scale (or other), or instruments for assessing substance abuse; assists students in managing pain, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, career transition or other issues through counseling, referrals, and participation in the care team; conducts follow-ups with patients after treatment. Follow-ups will consist of updating contact information, recording prescribed treatment, reviewing goals, baseline diagnostic status, symptom severity, and treatment adherence, and other pertinent information; manages documents and coordinates collaboration for Tulane Athletic Care Team (multidisciplinary team for student athlete wellbeing); reassesses those patients at each contact and arranges a full team reassessment every six months; assists with coordination of university communication, services, and follow up for disability assistance as needed; maintains patient and family confidentiality in all cases, unless a situation mandates a legal report of child abuse, elder/disabled person abuse, or a Tarasoff warning; attends and/or presents at appropriate professional conferences; tracks monthly and annual metrics as required; and routinely engages with students in athletic settings such as practices, games, or team meetings. Required Education and Experience:
Master of Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education
Licensed Master Social Worker in Louisiana (or the ability to obtain, before start date)
One year of experience with direct patient care, case management and psychosocial issues of adults
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
Experience providing case management, crisis intervention, brief assessment/triage, and care coordination to young adults and/or college students.
Experience in high demand outpatient or inpatient health settings.
Experience and interest in working in a fast paced and evolving setting
Ability to work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health providers.
Experience providing culturally competent care to a diverse client population.
Knowledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic, and traumatic illness/injuries; common medications and their effects/side effects; medical terminology. Knowledge and use of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the APA (DSM-5) is required.
Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.

Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 2 years direct experience providing case management, brief assessment/triage, and crisis intervention services.
Experience working with collegiate student-athletes.
Experience working in a university counseling center.
Experience and expertise working with college students who have marginalized identities or historically underutilize mental health services.
NCAA Related:
Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all his/her areas and/or program activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
