Position Summary: Manages all aspects of equipment operations for assigned sports. Assists with management of equipment operations for remaining sports programs.
Essential Functions of the Job:
1. Function: Assigned Sports Equipment Operations - Oversees all aspects of equipment operations for assigned sports; serves as administrative liaison to the coaches of the assigned sports regarding all equipment and uniform issues; manages distribution and collection of all equipment for assigned sports; prepares all equipment and uniforms for assigned sports for use in practices and events; transports equipment and uniforms to practice and game sites as needed; coordinates the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of equipment and uniforms for assigned sports. Oversees laundry operations for all assigned sports; maintains organization of storage areas for assigned sports; and maintains locker room areas for assigned sports, including assigning lockers, stocking shower products, and providing towels. (45%)
2. Function: Financial - Manages all equipment, uniform, and apparel orders for assigned sports; manages equipment budget for assigned sports; utilizes Nike’s futures and at-once ordering processes to make best use of Nike contract funds; reviews needs with coaches, prepares bid materials, works with purchasing department and vendors as necessary, and finalizes orders based on submitted bids and other relevant considerations; serves as liaison with outside vendors regarding equipment and uniform contracts and discount purchase programs for all assigned sports; implements inventory software to track orders and distribution of equipment and maintain accurate size information; manages Nike Elite funds for all sports; and manages unit wide operating supplies orders (i.e. laundry supplies, shower soap, heat press materials, and office supplies). 3. Function: Administrative Liaison - Serves as equipment unit liaison to athletic department in absence of Assistant Athletics Director of Equipment, Branding, and Licensing; manages equipment and apparel needs for departmental staff; keeps updated staff directory in inventory software, including accurate roster, sizes, and equipment issue logs; and manages issuance of apparel to new athletics department staff. (10%)
4. Function: Student Oversight - Recruits, trains and develops all Olympic Sport student equipment managers; and manages student worker hours and serves as a timekeeper. (10%)
5. Function: Other Duties - Performs other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description. (5%)
Required Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Two (2) years of previous experience in athletics equipment management
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Competencies:
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes and vendors
Extremely organized, self-starter, intrinsically motivated
Strong organizational, management and leadership skills
Proficient computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets and social media
Proven ability to multi-task effectively
Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
Available to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
Travel with sport teams for away contests
Through knowledge of NCAA and American Conference rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience at the Division I intercollegiate level
Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certification
NCAA Related: Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
