Assistant Coach, Women's Golf

Position Summary: The Assistant Coach, Women’s Golf assists with the coaching and administrative duties of the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf program. The Assistant Coach teaches golf fundamentals and skills associated with tournament play. This position provides instruction to their student-athletes during practice and competition. The Assistant Coach evaluates and recruits prospective student-athletes by seeking out recruitment opportunities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. This position will assist with the implementation of detailed development plans for the current student-athletes. The Assistant Coach analyzes and communicates statistical data to assist with making coaching decisions. This position also serves as the Tournament Manager for the Tulane Intercollegiate Golf Championship.

Essential Functions of the Job:

1. Function: Coaching - Assists the Head Coach with the teaching of golf fundamentals and skills associated with tournament play, which includes but is not limited to: observing and evaluating performance, demonstrating proper technique, developing practice plans, executing practice plans to improve student-athletes skill level; provides instruction to their student-athletes during practice and competition; assists the head coach with the management of all aspects of the sports program; serves as an on-course coach during practices and tournaments, which includes providing advice on strategy while evaluating player performance and demonstrating the proper skills or techniques to help the player improve their performance; and relays statistical information to players and translating the impact that they have on their ability to perform at an elite level. (50%)

2. Function: Recruiting - Evaluates and recruits high school players by seeking out recruitment opportunities locally, regionally, nationally and internationally; entertains prospective recruits and their accompanied family on campus; introduces them to the on-campus amenities and samples campus life during their tours; make phone calls, emails or social media contact within the NCAA guidelines to highlight Tulane Women’s Golf, Campus and New Orleans; maintain constant contact with recruit per Head Coach’s directive and assigned area of responsibility; and monitors the academic performance of recruits and PSA’s as assigned by the head coach. (25%)

3. Function: Statistical Analysis - Apply statistical data to assist in making coaching and recruiting decisions; analyze and communicate Trackman Launch Monitor numbers to student athlete and head coach, use this data to implement practice plan and technical adjustments to golf swing; input performance stats from practice and tournament play; monitor student athlete stats and report to head coach any areas of concern; and learn practice tests and record scores to aid with player development plans. (10%)

4. Function: Tournament Management - Serves as the Tournament Manager for the Tulane Classic Intercollegiate Golf Championship; overseeing all aspects of the operation; and coordinate with the golf course, hotels, and incoming teams. (10%)

5. Function: Other Duties - Performs other duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description. (5%)

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 1 year of golf coaching experience 

OR

  • High School Diploma/Equivalent

  • Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) or Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) Membership

  • 3 years of golf coaching experience 

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities/Competencies:

  1. Proficient in all technical aspects of golf

  2. Strong interpersonal skills

  3. Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administrators, student athletes, support staff and vendors

  4. Extremely organized, self-starter, intrinsically motivated

  5. Strong organizational, management and leadership skills

  6. Proven ability to multi-task effectively

  7. Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines

  8. Proficient computer skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and social media

  9. Ability to input, track and analyze statistical data related to golf performance

  10. Proven operational knowledge of Trackman including, ability to analyze and report data to player

  11. Availability to work flexible schedule including nights and weekends

  12. Schedule and book travel for team tournaments and recruiting

  13. Ability to travel with sports teams for away contests

  14. Full driver’s license and experience driving oversized vehicle.

  15. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Previous coaching experience in NCAA Division I or II Intercollegiate Athletics 

  2. Professional playing experience or Titleist Performance Institute Certified. 

  3. Bilingual - Language Preference for Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. Other languages will be considered too.

NCAA Related:

Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately.  Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
