Assistant Athletics Director for Football Academics

Position Overview

The Assistant Athletics Director for Football Academics provides strategic leadership and comprehensive academic support for the Football program within the Center for Student‑Athlete Services. This role oversees academic advising, eligibility processes, progress‑toward‑degree evaluation, and performance monitoring for football student‑athletes. The position supervises full‑time academic staff, graduate assistants, and student workers, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality academic services and full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional standards.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Supervision & Unit Leadership

  • Supervise full‑time academic support staff, graduate assistants, and student workers.

  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, scheduling oversight, and professional development.

  • Assist with strategic planning and implementation of academic initiatives within the Center.

Academic Advising & Student‑Athlete Support

  • Serve as lead scholastic supervisor for Football student‑athletes.

  • Provide individualized academic advising, degree planning, and academic skill development.

  • Monitor progress toward degree, maintain accurate academic records, and support NCAA/conference eligibility determinations.

  • Participate in prospective student‑athlete recruitment, offering academic evaluations and program education.

Eligibility, Monitoring & Reporting

  • Lead APR, GSR, and eligibility monitoring processes for the Football program.

  • Manage academic evaluations for prospects and support the NCAA Eligibility Center and admissions processes.

  • Maintain and update internal academic policies, preparing necessary compliance documentation.

Collaboration & Campus Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with campus advising centers, faculty, and student‑support offices.

  • Work collaboratively with the football coaching staff, compliance, and athletics leadership to align academic strategies.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional academic regulations.

  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to supervised staff regarding compliance expectations.

  • Communicate regularly with the Compliance Office and athletics leadership regarding eligibility, academic risk, and student‑athlete needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.

  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience, preferably within college athletics or student‑athlete academic services.

  • Experience in academic advising, eligibility monitoring, and/or student‑athlete support, ideally at the NCAA Division I level.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and non‑traditional hours as required by athletics operations.
