Job Description

The Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facilities & Operations is a key member of the athletics senior leadership team at Tarleton State University, responsible for the strategic oversight and day-to-day management of all athletic facilities, game operations, and capital/non-capital project execution. This position ensures excellence in the execution of game day experiences across all NCAA sports, serves as the primary liaison for campus operations, and provides oversight for athletic facility use, external rentals, fleet management, and event staffing. The role also supports sport supervision, tournament hosting, and departmental planning as assigned by the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Facilities Management (20%)

  • Oversee the maintenance, scheduling, and long-term planning for all athletic facilities, including stadiums, fields, courts, and support spaces.  This to include asset management and annual inventory.

  • Serve as point of contact with University Facilities for operational coordination and upgrades.

  • Ensure facilities are compliant with safety regulations, ADA standards, and NCAA requirements.

Game Operations Management – All Sports (20%)

  • Lead and manage all aspects of game day operations across all NCAA-sponsored sports, ensuring a safe, professional, and engaging experience for student-athletes, fans, and staff.

  • Act as the on-site administrator for high-profile events and NCAA postseason competitions.

Supervision of Game Operations Staff (10%)

  • Recruit, train, and supervise graduate assistants and student workers for all game operations roles.

  • Coordinate event staffing plans, schedules, and performance evaluations.

Fleet Management (5%)

  • Manage the athletic department’s fleet of vans and golf carts, including maintenance, usage logs, and coordination of vehicle assignments.

Capital Projects Liaison (10%)

  • Serve as the department’s primary liaison with Campus Operations for the planning and execution of athletic capital projects.

  • Participate in planning, budgeting, and scheduling meetings, and ensure alignment with athletic department goals.

Non-Capital Project Oversight (5%)

  • Oversee minor renovations, facility enhancements, and maintenance projects not classified as capital projects.

3rd Party Facility Rentals (5%)

  • Manage external rental agreements for athletic facilities, ensuring alignment with University policies and maximizing revenue opportunities.

Camp Rentals & Coordination (5%)

  • Coordinate facility use for internal and external sport camps, including contracts, scheduling, and facility readiness.

Tournament & Championship Hosting (5%)

  • Lead operational planning and execution of conference and NCAA postseason events hosted on campus.

Sport Supervision (5%)

  • Provide sport supervision as assigned by the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, supporting coaches, staff, and student-athletes in those programs.

Additional Duties (5%)

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Deputy Athletics Director.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education an experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in athletic facility operations, event management, or project coordination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and staff teams effectively.

  • Demonstrated experience in capital or facility project management.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the athletic event schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree from an accredited institution

  • Experience working in NCAA Division I or Division II athletics.

  • Familiarity with NCAA championship event hosting and compliance requirements.

  • Knowledge of facility scheduling software and event management systems.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain).

Salary

Commensurate with experience

Salary Range

The starting base annual salary is $80,370 and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position. The anticipated hiring range is $90,000–$100,000, with the full salary range extending to $114,131. and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
