Graduate Assistant – Marketing & Sales

Stephen F. Austin Athletics is seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant – Marketing & Sales position within the External Affairs unit. This position is designed for an aspiring athletics professional who is passionate about fan engagement, event presentation, revenue generation, and sports marketing.

The Graduate Assistant will be responsible for developing and implementing marketing, branding, and promotional strategies for assigned sports to increase awareness, attendance, and revenue. This individual will serve as the lead marketing contact for select sports, while helping to create an engaging and memorable fan experience for SFA Athletics events.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute strategic marketing, branding, and promotional plans for assigned sports.

  • Create sport-specific promotion plans that include theme days, giveaways, and fan engagement initiatives.

  • Serve as the primary marketing contact for assigned programs.

  • Prepare and execute detailed game presentation scripts and event plans, including music, video board content, public address announcements, spirit squads, and other entertainment elements.

  • Produce email marketing campaigns to drive attendance and ticket revenue.

  • Collaborate with coaches, sport programs, and athletics external units to ensure consistent and cohesive messaging.

  • Assist with community outreach, grassroots marketing, and fan development programs to create excitement around SFA Athletics.

  • Prospect and execute group ticket sales opportunities to help grow attendance.

  • Assist in recruiting, training, and supervising student interns within the external affairs unit.

  • Provide support for additional marketing, sales, and fan engagement initiatives as needed.

  • Oversee marketing and activation efforts for the Junior Jacks Kids Club, including membership recruitment, communications, engagement opportunities, and game day experiences.

  • Create detailed timing sheets and run-of-show documents for assigned events to ensure smooth execution of game presentation, fan experience elements, and in-game entertainment.

Compensation

  • Monthly stipend

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum of one year of experience in the sports industry.

  • Acceptance into the Stephen F. Austin Graduate School.

  • Must be enrolled full-time (6 credit hours for athletics) and/or (9 credit hours for other financial aid).

  • Position is contingent upon a successful background check.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong initiative, professionalism, and work ethic.

  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday breaks in a fast-paced athletics environment.

  • Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn new systems and software.
