Position Summary

San Diego State University is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Women’s Basketball Student Athlete Engagement Specialist. This role is integral to the success of our NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball program, providing essential operational, administrative, technical, and analytical support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support student-athlete engagement initiatives, ensuring a positive and enriching experience.

  • Manage travel logistics for the team, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.

  • Assist with alumni and community outreach efforts to foster strong relationships and enhance program visibility.

  • Support the recruiting coordinator in managing the recruitment database and handling communications.

Position Information

  • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2025, with the possibility of reappointment. 

  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. 

  • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.  

  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University.  Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club/Development, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, External Corporate Sales, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

The department has within its scope of responsibilities the operation of the athletic medicine program and the respective facilities. This program coordinates the medical care of the varsity and selected club/recreation sports. This includes coordinating pre and post-season physical examinations, as well as in-season clinical examinations and rehabilitation; maintaining proper documentation and records; controlling bid, vendor, and supply inventory; providing educational and career guidance/supervision for athletic training students; and developing professional relationships with physicians, medical providers, physical therapists, and their respective administrations.

Education and Experience

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Key Qualifications

  • Experience working in an athletics/sports office in an administrative support capacity. 

  • Experience working in an NCAA DI Women’s Basketball Program.

  • Experience scheduling meetings and calendars. 

  • Experience assisting with various events, including marketing events. 

  • Working knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures. 

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations of Division I Women’s Basketball is preferred.   

  • Some collegiate basketball experience as a coach and/or player.  

  • Experience in fundraising and/or program marketing and/or travel experience in an office setting.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Valid California driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,744 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
