San Diego State University is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach to help drive the continued success of our Division I program. Working alongside the Head Women’s Tennis Coach, you’ll play a vital role in shaping student-athletes both on and off the court, contributing to a culture of excellence, integrity, and team spirit.

In this dynamic role, you’ll assist in leading all aspects of the Women’s Tennis program, including:

  • Recruiting top-tier talent who embody the competitive and academic values of SDSU.

  • Coaching and teaching student-athletes to develop their skills, strategy, and sportsmanship.

  • Managing team operations through a range of administrative duties and day-to-day logistics.

  • Organizing and staging practices and competitions that prepare the team to compete at the highest level.

  • Engaging in fundraising efforts that support program growth and long-term success.

Position Information

  • This is a part-time (83%), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of July 31, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment. 

  • This appointment is for a 10/12 pay-plan position. The incumbent works 10 months per year and is paid over 12 months, with January 2026 and July 2026 as the anticipated off months.

  • This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. 

  • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Department Summary

The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University.  Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 550 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department.  The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.  

  • At least one year of experience as an NCAA Division I, II, or III assistant tennis coach.

Key Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Must present a positive image.

  • Knowledge of conference rules and regulations.  

  • Experience with community outreach program.  

  • Division I playing experience is preferred.  

  • National and international recruiting connections, especially in Southern California preferred.

Licenses/Certifications Required

  • Valid California Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 10 days of hire.

Compensation and Benefits

Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,963.58 per month. 

Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
