As an Assistant Athletic Trainer, you will work under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine to deliver exceptional clinical athletic training services. This role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including planning, organizing, and providing daily athletic training to our student-athletes.
Key responsibilities include:
Primary Athletic Trainer for the Swim and Dive team.
Preventing, recognizing, and assessing athletic injuries.
Designing and implementing effective prevention and rehabilitation programs.
Collaborating with coaching staff to communicate injury updates and treatment plans.
Advising student-athletes on injury prevention and physical conditioning strategies.
Conducting regular evaluations of student-athletes' physical health and performance.

Position Information
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of June 30, 2026, with the possibility of reappointment.
This position is designated as exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. (Ability to travel to away contests)
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Equivalent to bachelor’s degree in athletic training, physical education, kinesiology or related field of study or combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. Coursework must include completion of the Board of Certification (BOC) curriculum requirements.
Key Qualifications
Current knowledge of medical supply vendors, quality, and costs.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staff, medical providers, parents, and administrative staff.
Excellent written and verbal skills of those of a medical professional.
Must possess strong interpersonal and communications skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health professionals.
Proficiency with Biodex, SwimEx, and Alter-G.
Additional credentials of advance study in an athletic training related subject matter.
Examples are: functional evaluation/rehabilitation, instrumented or manual soft tissue mobilization, Kinesiotape, etc.
Experience as a certified athletic trainer in intercollegiate athletics; in particular, with football, club sports, hockey, lacrosse, swim and dive, and/or rugby.
Computer skills in inventory, budget, and insurance.
Ability to travel to away contests.
Licenses/Certifications Required
Certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.
Must possess and maintain certification in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and first aid.
Must stay current with these certifications and submit proof to the Associate Athletic Director of Athletic Medicine.
Valid California Driver’s License within 10 days of hire.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,213 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
