The Rose Bowl is an American outdoor athletic stadium, located in Pasadena, California, a northeast suburb of Los Angeles. Opened in October 1922, the stadium is recognized as a National Historic Landmark and a California Historic Civil Engineering landmark.
The Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation, a 501c3 nonprofit organization (as part of the Rose Bowl Operating Company) with a mission to preserve, protect and enhance the future of the Rose Bowl Stadium as a National Historic Landmark.
Scope and Responsibilities
The historic and globally-iconic Rose Bowl Stadium is seeking an accomplished and experienced candidate for the position of Vice President of Advancement (working title) within its 501c3 organization, the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation. With the Legacy Foundation in the midst of its first-ever capital campaign along with the annual College Football Playoff, UCLA Football in the Big Ten Conference and the 2028 Olympic Games on the horizon, this respected professional will be assigned the challenge of focusing on five-to-seven figure gifts from individuals, corporate and private foundations from around the nation. Furthermore, the position will have a strategic long-term focus on partnership advancement within local, regional and national community groups with the purpose of business and donor development as part of its cultivation strategy of new constituents.
The Lasting Legacy Capital Campaign is a two-phase, eight project effort totaling around $80 million as the Stadium prepares for the evolving College Football Playoff (CFP), UCLA in the Big Ten Conference and the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games – all of which will be transformational for America’s Stadium.
With a keen focus on leveraging relationship building to advance fund development on the Legacy platform for capital campaign, major gift and Rose Bowl Institute initiatives, this results-based position will report directly to the President of the Rose Bowl Legacy Foundation and act as an immediate co-pilot for the Foundation’s long-term success, including the stewardship and management of Legacy’s Board of Directors and the Advisory Board in a collaborative manner. Legacy’s boards consist of high-profile corporate, professional and volunteer leaders with national influence; the position will also have key interfacing with the RBOC Board.
The position will also be a primary leader in the Foundation in collaboration with the President, acting and partnering on key items that ensure growth of the Foundation’s initiatives, the advancement of the Lasting Legacy Capital Campaign, the inclusion and growth of key partnerships and key nonprofit compliance initiatives. The VP of Advancement will be a primary driver of a systematic, yet tailored approach to stewardship, engagement and acknowledgement activities for past, present and future donors with a goal of demonstrating impact to the Foundation through solicitation actions aimed at new gift and organizational growth.
This position’s importance is imperative to major gift fundraising and relationship-building that will be a primary focus and driver to complete the campaign on a local, regional, and national fundraising scale, including within the UCLA fan base.
Given the growth of Legacy over the past decade, the management, relationship and experience of past, current and future donors, prospects and partners is of the utmost importance for continued progress.
Other performance objectives and metrics will be established collaboratively with the President of Legacy in spirit of key improvements and advancements needed for future success.
Specific Responsibilities
· Establish, manage and cultivate a personal portfolio of 75-150 major donor prospects from individuals, corporate, and private foundations in support of the ongoing centennial capital campaign. This includes donors on a local, regional and national level.
· Work alongside the President to maintain and grow a donor moves management plan for major gift fundraising locally, regionally, and across the country to include individuals, corporate, and family foundations, as well as the long-term trajectory of the Foundation.
· Cultivate donor candidates, including senior donors, for the planned giving program and endowment strategies.
· Refresh current initiatives and coordinate an effective program for recognition, involvement, and stewardship of major and special gifts donors.
· Collaborate with the Rose Bowl Legacy Board of Directors and Advisory Board in encouraging their engagement in major gift cultivation and in opening doors with key donors.
· Work closely with the Executive Team and staff to promote the acquisition of major gifts and long term planning with a commitment to a successful trajectory of the Foundation.
· Work alongside the President as the key executive to advance the growth of the Foundation and its initiative.
Strategic and Organizational Growth:
· Alongside the President, develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan that supports the overall development and growth of the future of the Legacy Foundation, including talent development and capacity building.
· Identifying and establishing external alliances to expand Legacy’s reach and impact on a national level.
· Develop and implement a performance management system to track donor information, activities and results, identify areas of improvement, and ensure goals are met (CRM)
· Assist in the management of the department budget and ensure effective allocation of resources.
Key Selection Criteria
· A minimum of an undergraduate degree is required; advanced degree preferred; CFRE certificate preferred.
· Candidates for the position should demonstrate at least 5-10 years of successful, progressive experience in fundraising or revenue generation for a reputable nonprofit agency or university, as well as experience in working with boards of directors or advisory boards.
· A demonstrated, documented record in fundraising, including the identifying, cultivating and securing of gifts or clients in the $25,000 to $1,000,000+ range
· Knowledge of nonprofit organizations including individual giving, planned/estate gifts, and key elements that can drive pledge development.
· Knowledge and cultivating major donors and relationships while directing capital campaigns is required, as is sensitivity to donor needs.
· Experience in and knowledge of inter-collegiate athletics is preferred.
Compensation
· Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a full benefits package.
· This position also includes a bonus structure for employee performance and results as it relates to major gift fundraising.
