Position Summary:
The assistant golf coach will assist the head golf coach in directing all phases of the men's golf program, including recruitment involving correspondence with prospective student-athletes for athletically related aid, attendance at junior tournaments, and arranging visits to campus—all in accordance with NCAA rules. The assistant coach will also assist the head golf coach in running team practices, directing home intercollegiate tournaments, and fundraising.
Workplace Requirements:
On-campus position: This position is exclusively on-site, necessitating all duties to be performed in person. Per Rice policy 440, work arrangements may be subject to change.
Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree
• 2+ years of experience coaching or playing at the NCAA level
Skills:
Demonstrated success in skill instruction and practice/game plan development
Knowledge of NCAA legislation, participating conference bylaws, and compliance guidelines related to a sports program
Ability to motivate athletes to perform at peak ability
Demonstrated good sportsmanship and ethical behavior
Highly organized, with good time management and sound judgment
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of people in a diverse community
Demonstrated professional and effective public relations skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

Essential Functions:
Conducts and manages all aspects of the men's golf program according to participating conference, NCAA, Rice University, and Athletic Department rules, regulations, and procedures
Develops and organizes recruiting records, logs, and contact information for a sports program per NCAA regulations
Scouts and recruits student-athletes and supports future athletes through the admission process
Monitors academic progress of athletes to ensure player eligibility
Demonstrates game techniques and recommends player position assignments; participates in pre- and post-workouts; and plans and schedules coaching sessions according to established standards
Maintains skill development programs for players
Coordinates maintenance and repair work for athletic equipment
Promotes athletic programs through community events, fundraising, public speaking, and marketing
Teaches fundamentals and strategies of the assigned sport at the collegiate level
Critiques and provides professional feedback to athletes
Assists the head golf coach in running team practices and directing home intercollegiate tournaments
Assists the head golf coach in fundraising activities
Performs all other duties as assigned
