The Trademarks and Licensing Manager

The Trademarks and Licensing manager controls, protects, maintains and promotes the various names, marks, logos, symbols and phrases that represent Purdue University.  As part of Procurement Services Category Management team this position works specifically on trademarks and licensing functions in partnership with the University’s Office of Marketing and Communications and Intercollegiate Athletics in the following ways:

  • Collaborates with Strategic Sourcing on sourcing plan regarding contracts with enterprise impact
  • Consults Legal Team when complex contracting and compliance issues arise
  • Strategically develops and implements plans to optimize performance of the University’s licensing program.
  • Monitors market trends and industry developments to identify appropriate opportunities to advance the University’s retail presence and licensing program
  • Provides variety of trademark and licensing functions, such as artwork approvals; trademark tracking, applications and renewals; licensee contract renewals; minor compliance issues, royalty rate charges; and corporate social responsibility oversight (Fair Labor Association, Workers Rights Consortium).

 

As the Senior Manager, Trademarks and Licensing

The Senior Manager, Trademarks and Licensing is a subject-matter expert on trademarks and licensing practices. With limited oversight from the Assistant Director the Senior Manager controls, protects, maintains and promotes the various names, marks, logos, symbols and phrases that represent Purdue University.  As part of Procurement Services Category Management team this position works specifically on trademarks and licensing functions in partnership with the University’s Office of Marketing and Communications and Intercollegiate Athletics in the following ways:

  • Collaborates with Strategic Sourcing on sourcing plan regarding contracts with enterprise impact

  • This position influences campus partners regarding trademarks and licensing policies.

 

This is a dual posting where the hiring manager will determine the level according to the skills of the candidate.

 

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience Needed:

As the P2 Trademarks and Licensing Manager you will need the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Finance, Communications, Marketing or Supply Chain Management preferred
  • A minimum of two (2) – three (3) years experience within institutional or corporate trademark licensing operations or closely related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered

 

As the P3 Senior Manager, Trademarks and Licensing you will need the above and the following:

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience within institutional or corporate trademark licensing operations or closely related field

 

Skills Needed:

As the P2 Trademarks and Licensing Manager

  • Possesses and demonstrates the ability to learn the policies, procedures, and execution strategy for multiple solicitation methods and contract management and compliance principles
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office; possesses a developed skill set specifically with Excel
  • Experience using an enterprise procurement system
  • Excellent:
    • organization, problem solving and negotiation skills
    • analytical skills
    • presentation, verbal and written communication skills

 

P3 Senior Manager, Trademarks and Licensing

  • Possesses and demonstrates the ability to learn the policies, procedures, and execution strategy for multiple solicitation methods and contract management and compliance principles
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office; possesses a developed skill set specifically with Excel
  • Experience using an enterprise procurement system
  • Excellent:
    • organization, problem solving and negotiation skills
    • presentation, verbal and written communication skills
    • analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable working in an ambiguous environment.
  • Ability to manage a diverse matrix of stakeholders across different business units and developing strong relationships
