Assistant Director - Football Academic Support Services

STUDENT ADVISING & ACADEMIC SUPPORT

- Oversee, monitor, and track academic progress of assigned student-athletes to ensure NCAA eligibility expectations are met

- Provide accurate and timely (daily, weekly, and semester) academic reports to coaches and supervisor. Calculate student grades and monitor assignment completion

- Meet regularly with students to monitor academic progress. Coordinate appointments (tutoring, career success) to proactively support student-athletes

- Write clear and specific objectives; coordinate study hall times for assigned student-athletes

- Communicate with students regarding difficulties they are having with a class or classes, and provide support to students, communicate with students about necessary schedule changes, aid students in areas of organization, time management, and study skills

-Must possess the ability to analyze situations, identify problems and implement solutions impartially and fairly

- Capable of prioritizing assignments to complete tasks in a timely manner amidst changes in assignments, deadlines, requirements, and workload

- Demonstrated ability to be adaptive and flexible in the work environment

- Ability to interact diplomatically with individuals from diverse social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds to promote inclusion

- Assist students in evaluating and determining their interests and abilities, and help students link their interests/abilities with majors/programs

-Coach students in development of professional behaviors

-Provide guidance about graduate/professional school; career/internship opportunities and the job search process; and help student’s link learning and professional preparation in the workplace

-Provide assistance during major and career exploration, and discuss opportunities with students wishing to change their major to another school/college

-Research and provide feedback on best practices to help students link interests/abilities with majors/programs

- Identify and assign mentors and tutors to student-athletes; assist Assistant Director of the CAVE with interviewing and onboarding of academic mentors as needed

- Ability to build trust and strong professional interpersonal relationships with student-athletes, coaches, and university personnel

-Strong understanding of learning strategies and motivational techniques used to encourage positive academic outcomes

-Collaborate with academic staff to onboard and orient incoming first year and transfer student-athletes

- Assist with the nomination and recognition of student success to promote positive relationships with staff and student-athletes

 

 

 

 

 

ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES

-Develops work plans, policies and reports in accordance with established department objectives.

-Play an integral role and represent department on committees established to design and implement changes to University policies and procedures.

-Compile reports as required by the Big Ten Conference, NCAA, Athletics Director, Athletic Affairs Committee, Sr. Associate Athletics Director - Student Services and their respective Director within athletics academic support to whom they report

-Initiate and prepare administrative reports and documents

 

 

 

 

 

COMMUNICATIONS

-Participate and/or present at conference, workshops and other professional development activities.

-Conduct communication functions as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director - Student Services.

- Communicates with other department and University administrators; resolves or assists with the resolution of sensitive issues.

- Provides student letters of recommendation, at the discretion of the advisor.

-Build and maintain contacts with other College/Department advising units.

 

 

 

 

 

RECRUITING

- Participate with on-campus recruiting. Meet with student-athletes prospects and parents to review athletic academic services and facilities. Facilitate on-campus meetings with appropriate academic school representatives

-Research undergraduate and graduate programs to help potential incoming student-athletes link interests/abilities with majors/programs

 

 

 

 

 

TEACHING

-Assist their respective Director within athletics academic support to whom they report in creating and developing opportunities to better orient students on various study and career options.

-Develop and lead orientation activities, with support from their respective Director within athletics academic support to whom they report.
