Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Pomona College:  The Department of Physical Education is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Head Coach of Men’s Soccer for the Pomona-Pitzer athletic program. At Pomona, physical education professors are full members of the faculty. In this capacity, they teach courses, advise students, and play an integral role in committee service and faculty governance.

 

Responsibilities include managing all aspects of Pomona-Pitzer's competitive NCAA Division III Men’s Soccer program, teaching activity classes in the physical education program and managing administrative duties essential for the proper functioning of the Physical Education and Athletic programs. Faculty coaches are also responsible for contributing to a collaborative environment within the physical education department.

Pomona and Pitzer Colleges combine to sponsor varsity athletics and are members of the Claremont Colleges consortium located in Southern California, approximately 40 miles east of Los Angeles.  The Pomona-Pitzer Athletic Program consists of 21 intercollegiate teams and is a founding member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  Pomona and Pitzer  have a combined enrollment of approximately 2,800 students.

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Master's degree preferred.

- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and coach student-athletes at the scholastic or collegiate level. 

- Understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy

- Appreciation for the role of athletics in small liberal arts colleges with rigorous academic settings

- Capacity to teach and mentor an ethnically diverse student body

- Strong desire to contribute to a team environment
