Old Dominion University is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Associate Athletic Director to lead our Sports Medicine team. This leadership role will be responsible for managing all aspects of athletic training and sports medicine services, ensuring the health, safety, and optimal performance of our student-athletes. The Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine will be entrusted with strategic oversight of medical care and injury prevention, collaborating with athletic staff and external medical professionals to provide comprehensive care and innovative performance strategies for our student-athletes and will serve as the Athletics Health Care Administrator for the athletic department.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Care Administration, or related field.
Comprehensive knowledge of injury prevention, rehabilitation protocols, strength and conditioning, and sports performance strategies.
Ability to effectively collaborate with coaching staff, athletic personnel, and healthcare providers in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
Considerable knowledge of and familiarity with the latest advancements in sports medicine and athletic performance technologies.
Considerable knowledge of relevant NCAA rules, regulations and procedures related to student-athlete health and safety, medical eligibility, insurance (including secondary and NCAA catastrophic/post-eligibility), and drug testing protocols. Demonstrated commitment and ability to promoting wellness, safety, and athletic excellence.
Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate and confidential records (HIPAA/FERPA compliance).
Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing with the Board of Certification (BOC) and current Virginia state licensure required or obtained by date of employment.
Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer certification.
Considerable progressively responsible experience as a certified athletic trainer, with a proven track record of leadership and program management.
Considerable prior leadership experience in sports medicine and / or higher education administrative experience.
Prior working experience developing and managing a budget for an athletic training room / sports medicine department.
Preferred Qualifications
Some prior experience working at a NCAA Division I institution preferred.
Some prior experience working in a structure with a Chief Medical Officer / Medical Director preferred.
Some prior experience working with football or basketball at the collegiate level preferred.
Some knowledge of and familiarity with relevant conference rules preferred.
