Associate Athletics Director/Development

Northern Illinois University (NIU) is accepting applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director/Development. This is a full-time, 12-month position with benefits. Under the general supervision of the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Development & Revenue Generation, this position is responsible for independent leadership and management of all aspects of Development for the NIU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics with an emphasis on growing unrestricted and restricted support for the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Solicitations – 25%

    • Manage small portfolio of major gift prospects, coordinating solicitation strategies with the Sr. Associate Athletics Director, Development & Revenue Generation.

    • Donor relations and solicitations, with a specific portfolio emphasis on donors and prospects with the capacity to make $500 – $10,000 annual fund gifts (minimum of 100 current donors).

  • Annual Fund – 25%

    • Oversee and manage all aspects of the Annual Fund, stewardship initiatives including, assisting with all capital campaigns, Huskies Invest but not limited to goal setting, donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship

  • Customer Service – 10%

    • Work directly with ticket sales team to coordinate customer service efforts related to donors and season ticket holders.

  • Donor Special Events – 10%

    • Responsible for the coordination and management of special events and donor travel. Create and maintain annual fund events and solicitations calendar.

  • Marketing – 10%

    • Responsible for developing and executing the HAF Donor Guides.

  • Supervision – 5%

    • Direct supervision of the Development Coordinator and GA/Intern(s).

  • Budget – 5%

    • Working with Sr. Associate AD/Revenue Generation and the Sr. Associate AD/HR and Finance Administration, develop and monitor budget for annual fund, forecasts expenses, evaluates the cost-effectiveness of programs and re-allocate funds as appropriate.

  • Program Oversight – 5%

    • Oversee and manage comprehensive priority points program to facilitate improved donor stewardship and ticket-buyer customer service.

  • Other Related Duties – 5%

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Cash Handling responsibilities.

    • When practical under the circumstances, intercollegiate athletic staff is encouraged to voluntarily attend all athletic events to promote audience participation and support for NIU team efforts.

    • Physical Demand/requirements - sitting, standing, lifting up to 50lbs

Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in collegiate development or intercollegiate athletic environment that involves interaction with external public.

  • Demonstrated experience in fundraising.

  • Supervisory experience in a DI or DII level higher education institution.

  • Excellent oral and written communication and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree

  • Five (5) or more years of experience in fundraising, sales, or development.
