DIRECTOR OF ATHLETIC COMMUNICATIONS

Newberry College (NCAA D2), located in Newberry, SC, is seeking applicants for our Director of Athletic Communications position.

The selected candidate will ensure the team operates and conducts themselves within the ideals, goals, rules, and regulations set forth by Newberry College, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the South Atlantic Conference (SAC).  The successful candidate will embrace and promote the mission of Newberry College. This position reports directly to the Associate Athletic Director for External Relations. The successful candidate will provide leadership, organization, supervision, instruction, and strategic planning for the athletics communication staff for the 24-sport, 800-student-athlete department.

 

 

JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Create and direct a professional live video streaming product for all home events distributed by FloSports.

  2. Oversees all equipment maintenance, staffing, script planning, graphics, cooperate integrations and in-broadcast feature videos.

  3. Primary technology contact for all events hosted by Newberry College Athletics.

  4. Ability to set up, manage and coordinate and troubleshoot audio visual equipment for live streaming events.

  5. Plan and execute media days for all 26 teams. This includes headshots, posed action shots and team pictures.

  6. Hire, train, and supervise a staff of three athletics communications graduate assistants and multiple students.

  7. Create an atmosphere that emphasizes the student-athlete experience.

  8. Serve as key member of the athletics administrative team.

  9. Direct public relations efforts and communications services for the athletics department.

  10. Foster positive relationships with coaching staff and student-athletes.

  11. Create and produce print and virtual content including fact books, game notes, press releases, social media content and graphics, game/match recaps, and award nominations for student-athletes and coaches.

  12. Update the college's athletics website with creative and essential content.

  13. Manage home event operations and essential staff.

  14. Update social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

  15. Serve as the primary contact for specific Newberry College programs while aiding in the coverage of other in-season teams.

  16. Responsible for coordinating Wolfies end of the year awards banquet.

  17. Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail.

  18. Complete assigned projects for athletics department.

  19. Other duties as assigned by Director of Athletics.

 

 

EDUCATIONAL OR OTHER HIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree, and previous collegiate media relations experience. Must have experience with StatCrew, Genius Sports and Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom etc.).  Organizational, creative and team building skills are essential. Candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Video production qualifications include proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite focusing on Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop as well as Production Truck/ OBS software.
